The DB box is at the entrance and it has a plywood door. The eero max 7 will be just on the right side of the dining table while the HB710 will be in the DB box and in front of the bed in the master bedroom.

Thanks. I will recommend two HB710 in this case.

Hi guys, this may sound stupid but how do you get the IP address of a wireless AP without using arp (to configure it without direct LAN connection)?

Router (db box) -> switch -> Wireless AP

Thank you.

In general you should be able to get the information from the main router Web UI.

Usually the Chinese for AP mode is 有线中继模式 (wired bridged mode).

无线中继模式 (wireless bridge mode) is wireless repeater mode.

Looks like that is the case. I do not use mobile apps for China WiFi 6/7 routers myself (Xiaomi/ZTE/TP-Link/Huawei), just using the Web UI. My old China Mobile phone number no longer works...

Asus is better in this aspect. You can use English Web UI and Asus Router app for the Asus China routers without a problem.

A few things I hope from China WiFi 7 routers.

1) More 10Gbps capable options. Right now only Xiaomi China, Asus China and TP-Link China got 10Gbps capable WiFi 7 routers. There are more and more 10Gbps trial now in mainland China. So hopefully we may see more and more 10G capable WiFi 7 routers.

It is also strange that no vendors have come out with flagship models with Filogic 880 chipset (which should be cheaper than Qualcomm IPQ9570/9574 used in Xiaomi BE10000).

2) More triband WiFi 7 routers. No hope to get 6Gbps approval for WiFi use in mainland China any time soon, so the next best thing is to have dual 5Gbps band and EHT240 support with MLO.

3) But I still hope China can approve 6GHz-1 for use in WiFi then we will see low cost true WiFi 7 routers with 6GHz band in the market.

@xiaofan , sorry. I tried find, but find the Chinese wording for AP as per you mentioned in the zte page.

I can only find this mesh something, is this the same one?

No, this is not the right one.

You need to go to the WAN 1 settings and change it to "桥接 (Bridge)" mode. By default it is "DHCP" mode.

Is the Asus RT-BE88U (not china) a worthy purchase? Albeit no 6ghz..

Yes if you do not mind no 6GHz band.

It is a flagship grade 10Gbe capable router, other than lack of 6GHz band, it is way better than the popular Asus ZenWiFi BT10.

Flagship Broadcom BCM4916 CPU -- same CPU as the ROG GT-BE98
2GB RAM -- same as the ROG GT-BE98
Dual 10G ports, quad 2.5G ports and quad 1G ports -- even better than the ROG GT-BE98, but then take note the second 10G port is SFP+ port so you may need to add a 10G SFP+ to RJ45 module depending on your use case.

Typical use cases for the 10G SFP+ port:
10G SFP+ port --> DAC cable --> desktop computer with 10G SFP+ network adapter
10G SFP+ port + 10G SFP+ optic module --> Fibre cable --> desktop computer with 10G SFP+ network adapter + 10G SFP+ optic module
10G SFP+ port + 10G RJ45 copper module --> Ethernet cable --> desktop computer with 10G RJ45 network adapter
10G SFP+ port --> DAC cable --> 10G switch with 10G SFP+ port

@xiaofan, sorry. Got to disturb you again. The below speed test (*on wifi 5g*)is before the zte7200pro being set to bridge mode.

Screenshot-2025-02-22-22-58-12-98-40deb401b9ffe8e1df2f1cc5ba480b12.jpg

After I set it to bridge mode, the speed for download and upload drop to 300++ for both.

Me network noobie.. Can advise why the wifi speed drop? For my house setup, most of the devises are on wifi. I don't use lan much. So should I just leave the zte on router mode(will have double nat)
Or on bridge mode but wifi speed drop

ZTE BE7200 Pro+ 3m distance SpeedTest, with Acer Swift Go 14 2024 model laptop (Intel Core Ultra 5 125H CPU, 16GB/512GB configuration, Intel BE200 based Intel Killer BE1750 WiFi 7 adapter).

No difference in terms of wireless speed when using router mode or bridge mode.

1) Main MLO SSID (2.4GHz+5GHz, CH9 on 2.4GHz band and CH60 for 5GHz band), router mode (Double NAT, behind main OpenWRT router).

Just for sharing purpose. I migrated to SH 5Gbps plan from ST ONT 1Gbps plan since last month. While I could have gone with SH pair of EB810 and HB710 set up, but I prefer Asus but yet does not want to spend more. Since I had already planned a trip to China earlier this month, I took the opportunity to buy Asus BE-86U as main router and TUF BE-6500 as Aimesh to replace my current router set up. I eventually decided on BE86U instead of BE88U as I only needed a 2.5G LAN connection to my desktop pc in my bedroom. Even if I upgrade my pc in the future, I do not plan on having a higher NIC than 2.5G.

It was relatively easy to set up as the Web UI and Asus router app could be in English. As of today, after two weeks of usage, I am happy to report there was no issue pertaining with the two routers and connection speed was more or less similar to what was expected and reported. There were no dropped connections except for one morning whereby there was something wrong with the Nokia ONT and there were no broadband and digital voice connection. Reset of the ONT settled the issue so I think that was on SH.

In general you should be able to get the information from the main router Web UI.
Hi @xiaofan

Can I do this?

Router (db box) -> switch (db box) -> patch panel (db box) -> Wireless AP

If possible, do I need a managed or dumb switch?

Thank you.

This one from Asus China is for those who like many LAN ports, but missing 10G WAN port is a main problem. Price is also high at RMB 2000.

ROG GS7 WiFi 7 router
华硕(ASUS)ROG魔盒WiFi7电竞无线AI路由器 (9个2.5G口MTK AI内芯2GB DDR4内存GS7)
Dual band WiFi 7 BE7200, 2.5G WAN port + 8 x 2.5G LAN ports. MediaTek Filogic 880 chipset? (need confirmation), 2GB RAM, with AI.
