Yup, the educated Chinese that I know also milk the PR here gao gao, then return to China or bounce to US/EU. Even the ones who get citizenship rarely think of SG as their new permanent homeland, but as a temporary resting point to extract benefits as much as possible from. Then if possible, they will use the power of our red passport to more easily get work visas or PRs from US/EU/UK/CAN/AU/NZ, scamming others by claiming that they are "Singaporeans".

Compared to true blue Sinkies, these China people really have it better. Free uni + stipend, no NS, and the optionality of withdrawing all their CPF money whenever they want to (just by giving up their PR or renouncing their sinkie citizenship which they never cared for).

As their friend I'm heypi for them, but as a Sinkie I feel betrayed by PAP for setting up citizens to lose to foreigners.

we r a pro-foreigner anti-local place

same as all of you - overcrowded island and non stop hiking of prices of everything
Think impression those from there lagi more rebellious. It will require more to satisfy them. If there is anyone who after going through what locals go through and feel buay song about it one want to challenge back one and will challenge back one, it will probably be those from there.

Just look at those news that can be leaked out from there. Even when they are under a more rigid system, they won't hesitate to protest and challenge back. In a more liberal society, they can and will do more. And locals are meek in comparison to them. If locals also buay tahan buay song liao, doubt they will be anymore guai-guai.

I saw the Facebook post quoted above on Sengkang and the dirty staircase area. Assuming the story is true, it shows the PAP-run town council is bad at their jobs.

But really, it has been decades since this whole dirty corridor topic has been a point of contention for elections. Maybe it's intentional that people are focused on small things such as dirty corridors.
Think to greater extent, its also to do with the quality of the residents. Those old courtesy campaign, etc, cannot stop one. Perhaps even more so now with so many outsiders from lesser places here, and the eroding of morals and values. More boorish people around. Need to constantly remind. Nevermind that they tend now wear a coat of educated outside, they are still uncivilised inside.

There is only so much TC can do. If the residents not civilised enough, no amount of cleaning will help. Alot of 没文化 people out there despite the education.

Remembered local neighbourhood periodically can see cleaners sweep the housing block. Maybe not as frequent but not uncommon also. And they also regularly wash the corridors also.

But still some people are really uncivilised, uncouth and ill-bred. Don't have the simple decency to clean up after they make a mess of the place, especially common areas. Quite some also don't throw their rubbish into their own rubbish chute or the outside bin, just anyhow throw. Its not like they bo-tak-chek. They simply are just boorish inside.

They go where also uncivilised. When have more of such people in the neighbourhood, the neighbourhood will become dirty faster than TC can clean. Is saw local neighbourhood cleaners quite diligent one. But still, often over the weekend the neighbourhood tend become more dirty with rubbish anyhow throw compare to weekdays.

Guess its cause weekend these uncivilised uncouth people tend come back stay at home more, thus dirty the neighbourhood more. Weekdays they do it elsewhere, at work more perhaps.

Go walk in her area and you’ll be able to see the number of improvements in the area.
Think circuit road side stark contrast. If can remembered the old ten storey estate conditions. There alot of new housing, thus come more rejuvenation of the neighbourhood also.

If people from China, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, India can uproot themselves from their birth country to come to Singapore means they can do the same to Singapore if there are better opportunities in US/UK.

This is funny

How much of it is due to the MP
Or Town Council and HDB and government authorities already have plans to do things to it

Anyway to say it's improvement isn't accurate
It won't improve till they tear down all the low lying flats

Plus the road there has always been funny.
They probably need to follow the drains and basically redo everything from scratch
Be bold.and imagine all the old flats.and grass patches & buildings gone and dream up new buildings and then do the roads

It’s already happening . Know of an ex colleague from Myanmar who studied poly + Uni in sg and working here . Has been here almost 15 years .

he applied for pr 3x and got rejected , after submitting expression of interest for Aussie PR , he got invited to apply for it .

Think he should had gotten Aussie pr by now and planning to move over there Liao .

Only the most naive human being will accept his explanation that he was pointing to one table nicely that they havent greeted, especially when the table is filming them.

I see FB comments alot of ppl believe this kumgong excuse. Their brain really made of straw.

if I'm not wrong, most of the supporters are from their inner circle, PAP IBs.

I dun see anyone doing finger gestures or out of context.

In fact, quite heartening to see this newcomer and how she approaches people.

First pic I see liao I actually teared.

So young so positive so full of life yet embark on a thankless journey.

Jiayou!

see the body language and gesture differential between PAP ministers/MPs and opposition party walking the ground.

one is like 皇帝出游 with many plp grassroots “volunteers” to 壯声势 whereas the opposition party with limited resources and manpower 默默耕耘.

Always wondered how he would fare being in a C-Suite position in the private sector e.g Banks/MNCs/Tech Companies.
Wonders if he would perhaps uses his army logic during the senior management meeting to explain why his team not hitting the KPIs.
He will be air-dropped to some ah kong company.
His role will be to talk rock and nothing executive.
Unless the operation is pretty SOP and he dun need to change anything, then it will suit him.
With his pattern, he will offend a lot of people if he is holding a high post.

Nothing against him.
But, he is becoming the next Ah Jin and saying things that will create the opposite effect even though that is not his intentions.

Pritam need to be ambitious and step.out to contest in East Coast/ Marine Parade to win another GRC and don't need to give way to kachang puteh parties like NSP, SDA or PAR and contest where they want o contest.
I think he is given no choice but to take the giant leap to go for the kill for this campaign.
Or S Lim will do it if he is concerned about his court case.
It will be one of nearby GRC that he will go.
The other smaller parties should know what to do if they dun want to lose their deposit.
Their declaration is still subjected to changes.

The thing with foreigners is their mindset is different from sinkies. Street smart, more hungry etc. if they are daring to risk uprooting from where they call home, even with the pink ic, it means nothing.

If there are opportunities for themselves and their kids elsewhere, I'm sure they will consider it.

I had a client many years ago. EP holder. Worked for a few years in sg and applied or PR. received in about a year. Both husband and wife are degree holders. Eventually offered citizenship after a few years. Took it up. A couple of years later applied for PR in a amdk country.
Agreed . Sinkies too comfortable, scared of many factors and most of them can’t fit into foreign environments….

I have been very vocal against the foreign influx since 2011 but have since realised it is a losing battle

now getting old and tired and no longer in the market for job opportunities or housing,

the battle has to be fought by the younger sinkies from here .... if they care
To them , so long as they get good paying jobs , high progression in their career / businesses , can flip btos , this will satisfy them ;)

How can we be a country of delivery drivers serving foreigners who snatched our jobs.
Why not. Think if can see it through and through, local is an elitist society with an elitist system. Not that much different from the past dynastic one. Only minority can survive really well. And mostly at the expense of those below.

Difference perhaps is how they call themselves and the people who are at the top. But still is top few decide the life of people, thinking they are superior than others by virtue of the elitism they are associated with cause they are the ones that make it to the top.

Think meritocracy commonly known in Chinese is 精英主义, translate back to English is elitism. Just that local hide it under a different word and gave it a different interpretation.

But at the core, local is just concern about sieving the elites out. Often at the expense of the ordinary. Their suffering not so important. As long as pacify them with little gesture of benefits they happy liao.

Education is a major tool that local use to achieve that goal of having elites. If can observed, the process of elimination start young, from primary onwards.

Those that cannot take the formal education rigid and rigorous selection process, tend fallout along the way, and are perceived as failure of sort and often sidelined by society. End up only the cream of the crop left, for local to pick and choose.

But there is no guarantee those who survived the rigorous education selection process will be elite. For there are only so much space up at the top for few only. The rest will still be somewhat mediocre in comparison. 比上不足比下有余.

Thus perhaps the resentment by many so called educated that despite their suffering and sacrifice to win the education race, they are no much better a winner in life still. Living somewhat sad and pathetic existence as long as they are not selected for the elites. :s22:
