CSJ had nothing to do with my point. The general public is still talking about the same topics ("my MP never showed up until its voting time!") for years on end.

20 years later, you all will still be talking about the same topic.
70% is okay with meeting once every 5 years lah :o

Noisy Lim Tean wants to contest so many seats. Will he even win one?

Since his party is one of the bottom tier opposition parties and their candidates even lost their deposit in Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC in GE2020, will they fare any better in Tanjong Pagar? Or will it be a PAP landslide there?
If Lim Tean party can win even 1 SMC or GRC I chop my KKJ to make hot dog sandwich

Director is high profile meh? I'm surprised they r scouting at the director level. Wonder if pap is trying to make their ministers younger to connect youth or they can't find anyone from higher ranks cos all top comfy with the high paying jobs
They're preparing for the next generation of leaders. They can't be calling up people at tsl age.

The small parties have been very vocal in reserving GRCs and SMCs since the day the map was released while the serious parties like WP, PSP and SDP have to strategize, plan manpower and logistics, and discuss internally. Any sensible opposition party would know it's better to keep some surprises up their sleeves like what WP did in GE2011 when Low Thia Khiang joined the Aljunied slate on nomination day.

The fringe parties are loudly proclaiming that they don't want any multi-cornered fights even as they chope seats all over the island. What they are really trying to do is stake their claims everywhere and gaslight that it's the serious parties that are bullying them when the multi-cornered fights inevitably happen.
WP and PSP are smart in keeping their cards in their pocket until parliament dissolves while continuing their groundwork instead of chopeing seats for the PAP to 暗笑 at them for being kumkong carrots for them to chop

High ranking meh? Director only haha. In civil service considered normal rank.
you are spewing rubbish to say director is normal rank.
also, age at which one becomes director is an indication of potential

I wonder for those who resigned to stand in for GE. If get voted in, gets MP allowance, then no other FT job? Just doing MP full-time?

And if doesn't get voted in, they go back to their original position or? And from now till election, no income???
there’s always a job at NTUC lah..
but these senior civil servants likeky be MOS or senior parliamentary secretary

Fresh grads start from Asst manager/Manager in civil service. Most people with decent work performance will rise to director level by their 40s. E.g. in MINDEF there are 100s of directors. Plenty of them. Like how VP is common in banks. Don't sua ku lol.

If by 40s not director title usually is private uni or beh kan one
depends entirely on ministry . some start as senior executive
no true at all what you say. many from local uni retire as DD / senior DD

That guy doesn't work in CS la. Simis 100s of dir. You wait long long to get promoted one. That's why always got people horizontally transferring cos they stuck at MX 11A level.

MOF Budget director resigns ahead of GE2025, fifth civil servant to step down so far

Director of security and resilience programmes at the Ministry of Finance Shawn Loh will leave the public service from April 6.

SINGAPORE – The civil servant who oversaw the last two budgets has resigned amid speculation he may stand in the upcoming general election.

Mr Shawn Loh, 38, director of security and resilience programmes at the Ministry of Finance, will leave the public service with effect from April 6, The Straits Times has learnt.

He is the fifth in a string of resignations of senior civil servants in the last few weeks.

Mr Loh was Budget director for 2024 and 2025, which were the first budgets to include programmes from the Forward Singapore engagement exercise.

He joined MOF in June 2023, and worked on programmes including the CDC and SG60 voucher schemes.

His team also supported the transformations within various ministries as well as developments like Kallang Alive, a masterplan covering the future of the precinct around the Sports Hub. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong had spoken about the masterplan during his maiden National Day Rally in 2024.

Before joining MOF, Mr Loh was the Economic Development Board’s vice-president of Singapore businesses as well as industry manpower development.

He also had a stint in the private sector, spending more than a year at Commonwealth Capital Group driving business expansion from 2020 to 2021.

Mr Loh started his career in 2011 at the Ministry of Education, where he looked at internal strategic planning and education policies for children with special needs.

He then spent time in the Ministry of Manpower, where he led a team working with the Central Provident Fund Advisory Panel to introduce reforms to the CPF scheme.

He also oversaw population policy and planning during a stint at the Prime Minister’s Office in its strategy group.

ST has contacted him for comment.

Besides Mr Loh’s, the resignations of two other senior civil servants were announced on March 25 – second permanent secretary Jeffrey Siow from the Ministries of Manpower and Trade and Industry, as well as Ms Goh Hanyan, director in the Smart Nation Strategy Office and the national AI group for policy and strategy in the Ministry of Digital Development and Information.

Earlier, ST reported that deputy secretary (policy) Jasmin Lau from the Ministry of Health, and director for private and future mobility Foo Cexiang from the Ministry of Transport had also resigned.

They are among a number of resignations expected from the public service ahead of the general election, which is widely expected by mid-year after the release of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee’s report on March 11.

The PAP has traditionally tapped public service leaders when sourcing for candidates. Those who are chosen to stand often resign in the lead-up to the election, as they are not allowed to participate in political activities while in office.

Civil serpents still better than ex-army generals but then my impression of civil serpents is that they like to taichi and push difficult issues to another ministry or goverment agency to follow up

A lot of the private Sector ppl seems to prefer joining opposition instead.

Harpreet Singh for example, is such as accomplished as Raj Joshua Thomas (Former NMP, rumored to be close to Shanmugam and joining PAP next GE) if not more.

He could easily joined PAP and potentially be fast-tracked but he chose to join WP instead.

WP seems very serious about Marine Parade. They are quickly covering the new areas — MacPherson SMC and the parts of Potong Pasir and Mountbatten that were added into the GRC
