Is sg still a country? Does it hv its own identity? It's just a paradise for foreigners to come n take things away from locals n trample over us under d blessing of gov.

Which country's leaders will say locals shld integrate with foreigners n not d other way ard?

It’s a developing country trying to masquerade as a developed country, it’s about increasing gdp at all costs and culture these days

MRT is a form of less-privileged mass transit, and people don't own the train they ride in. They cannot tell the train driver or programming to suka switch from EWL to Circle Line, or last minute turn back because someone forgot to bring his homework. Of course the least privileged mass transit is walking, followed by cycling, these require minimal government setup and maintenance... but safety hugely improves if government properly creates and separates footpaths from bicycle paths from vehicular roads.

Imagine a plot of asphalt. In less than a second, a car, typically containing 1-2 persons, goes over it and is gone.
Imagine a section of track as the same length as the plot of asphalt. In multiple seconds, a train with multiple carriages carrying a total of 100+ people goes over that section of track before it is gone.
The amount of privilege for that plot of asphalt is much higher than that of the equal-length section of track.

What is your point of highlighting this?

That the more privileged are more ownself care ownself than the less privileged?
What there should no be roads for cars?

My point is just to say that paying road tax is a privilege. A real privilege. Drivers should not think that they have the right to treat every road as their grandfather's road just because they paid a bit of road tax.

Earlier just saw a car cut across 4 lanes and the chevron marking to go from the SLE entrance to the TPE entrance at the end part of the CTE. Ridiculous, as if traffic laws don't exist.

You mean in the past it was not about increasing GDP at all costs?
Wow if previously not like that and yet already reached such super levels of growth and prosperity then SG going to Mars in terms of superiority soon!

SG is a developed country. Nothing to masquerade. It definitely is developed and first world.

The upcoming general election is not just about the PAP needing a strong mandate, but Singaporeans recognising that much is at stake for the country in this new environment, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said on March 26.

“In order to survive, in order to thrive, in order for us to navigate a very challenging global environment, we will need a strong and united Singapore,” he said. “So there is much at stake in the elections.”

“And when the elections come, I will present my case for the PAP, for me and my team, and I hope Singaporeans will give me the chance to serve them and to serve Singapore,” he added.

PM Wong was speaking to Singapore reporters in Hanoi before flying home after a two-day visit to Vietnam, his first to the country since taking over as prime minister in May 2024.

He said his introductory visits to the various Asean countries – he has been to Brunei, Malaysia, Laos, Indonesia and Thailand – have allowed him to strengthen his relationship with his counterparts, affirm Singapore’s partnership with these key neighbours, and identify new areas in which to strengthen cooperation.

“All of us in Asean can see the changes happening in the world,” he said. “There is a profound change in the global order – competition is intensifying, trade barriers are going up,” he added.

“Great power rivalry is increasing and, more and more, it feels like we are entering a world where it’s every country for itself, and stronger countries will use aggression or even coercion to get what they want at the expense of smaller countries,” he said.

“Even within Asean itself, the large countries on their own will feel that this is a very difficult, inhospitable global environment. But if we can combine together... as a collective, we are much stronger, and we can hold our own.”

In order for him to survive more like it.

Scared first pm to get voted off in election
"We will need a strong & united SG"

On the other hand, they import more n more FT
The message and their execution are not consistent. On one hand he ask for a united sg but on the other hand their policies just serve to increase the wealth divide.

His cabinet ministers are all in the clouds with no understanding of what’s going on on the ground
Cut it short u gt mandate u get rich...common folks die c**k standing
The old prata chao tar.
Can use it any more liao.
As mentioned to CHT, give all of you strong mandate for past 60 years.
And we have to rely on vouchers to tackle cost of living ?
To hv a strong & united SG, all Singaporean must Vote for Opp.

SG is really deteriorating .... 😮💨😭😡

Must Vote for Opp to reset n end our sufferingS asap 💪💪💪

No more FT !!

No more damn troublesome fixed deno CDC vouchers, let IT savvy ppl to enter the exact amt !!

No more jlb pap , mp, tc, hdb , nea , nparks who cant solve our daily issues permanently n huge wastage of our precious water n electricity w self irrigation n our $$$$$$$$ due to COL too.
End of the day 60% will just keep support them.
Just hope karma befall on the 60% and laugh at them and their descendants for continuously supporting and screwing peasants lives till their own gets screwed...

If paying road tax is a privilege then the privileged are entitled to think how they want to think.

The not privileged shouldn't get involved.

But how would your logic work if we go by Lim Wee Kiak's statement of "NS is a privilege"?

SG politicians really very good at this sort of thing. Must stop and think one. Thought provoking.

I think in LWK's statement he is referring to serving NS is a privilege that only SGrean males get to have access to. So the privilege is attained by being a male born in SG or young immigrant. The privilege is in having the SG citizenship and the reward is to serve NS.

Going back to your previous example on drivers paying road tax. The privilege is to get to drive on SG roads with a car. The privilege is attained by being rich enough to afford the costs of owning a car and the COE and road tax. The privilege is in being rich enough and the reward is to drive cars on SG roads.

So yes the logic works.

But they vote due to very different issues?
I know rich (and young) people staying in landed who vote for opposition cus they are more idealistic - don’t believe in one party rule, wants more engaged parliament etc. higher ideals. But normally these aren’t the sme towkay types.
Whereas middle class/ lower class vote opposition due to cost of living issues.
Erm, how is that idealistic, unless one chose to accept that only incumbent know what's best for the everyone. But is that really so. Think one reason people choose opposition is cause their views are not represented inside. Incumbent tend only push one kind of view, that which it perceived what is good for the people, nevermind what people really think.

Think perhaps even more idealistic is to expect one party to represent everyone, when its not. If not wrong, all along the support for incumbent vs opposition have been around 60/40 plus or minus 10 maybe. Meaning around 40% are not represented by incumbent. Yet consistently the power spread have been around 90/10 plus or minus 10 maybe. Meaning there is a great disparity there.

Many are not represented, but they are forced to accept whatever that is decided on them. Cause the system put only one party up there to decide the fate of everyone. And the ignorance tend think that that is the wish of everyone cause its winner takes all, when the support for incumbent doesn't mean 100%
