In Singapore, there are only 2 recognised opposition parties. Singapore is too small to have more than 2 opposition parties. The opposition is facing a strong incumbent. As such, the only way to defeat the incumbent is to come together as 1-2 parties to challenge them. Anything more than 2 is dilution of votes, and all of them will be wiped out. Opposition until today has not understand the meaning of politics. Already 2 decades have passed and they still living in their dreams. PAP understand it very clearly right from day one, and stayed focus,

This is one party that doesn't learn, OYK was a rejected candidate himself, can't hold his own and has to sneak in via GRC on the tailcoat of KBW. Now he is leading and trying to sneak in another 2 unknown JLBs...

He was seen with the WP MPs on walkabouts recently.

Since he's a long-time WP member, it is a safe choice this time.

People like LT, GMS and all the other motley crews have ZERO chance of winning, even if PAP is involved in a super big scandal in future they will still have 0 chance of winning. Let's make it clear. I don't understand why they are even contesting, that shows how out of touch they are with the people.

A party needs to be relevant, needs to build up their name, needs to provide constant updates through social media, actually walks the ground. Not just randomly come in say they have the best candidate and want to contest, like what LT is saying to SPP. Rubbish.

In terms of the opposition, I think this is the current strength and pecking order.

WP > PSP > SDP >>> RDU > SPP > NSP > SDA >> PAR > PPP

In Singapore context of politics, the FPTP system favours the incumbent PAP and opposition parties (WP/ PSP) that have many members and rich in resources to perform walkabout every 1 or 2 weeks. The other mosquito parties contesting PAP is 鸡蛋碰石头 and waste of time only

Lim Tean and his party members got more likes on Facebook and Tik Tok doesnt mean they are more popular in reality... Being loud and aggressive can only attract the hardcore opposition voters and siaolang. The swing voters are the ones who are kingmakers and they will rather vote for PAP if Lim Tean party contest in their constituencies.

Agree. Swing voters are the kingmakers. In US elections, it is always the candidate who managed to win more swing states that wins the election for them. In most wards in Singapore, there is around 30% +- opposition voters and about 45%+- PAP voters. About 25% +- sits on the fence and cast their vote for either party. Only when a strong opposition fields a slate of good candidates can they win majority of the swing voters over.

If not really well-connected, will be not be able to join the inner circle and only be able to be like Liang Eng Hwa, etc.

Won't be able to get a ministerial position, become mayor or any other additional portfolios. Also, little chance of being able to utilize MP position to get contracts for own firms/get directorial positions in other companies, etc.

In that case, might not be really worth it to sacrifice privacy for an additional $16k per month
unless if really wish to serve the people or really need the $16k per month.

Anyway, in that position also won't be able to contribute much as your input won't really be consulted by the PAP inner circle who is the one who comes out with the policies.

Might as well focus more time on day job and spend more time with family, etc.

During Yesterday evening news, they were interviewing Desmond Lim of SDA while he was walking in Pasir Ris Changi GRC. He ended off saying he will have a follow up call with WP who has signal their interest to contest in Punggol GRC and then decide who should give way.
I’m totally amused with this statement of his. For a kachang puteh party of his, he expects that WP could possibly give way to them. Delusional. No need for a phone call. He should give way because SDA stands zero chance of beating PAP
