does starhub disallow 1.1.1.1? when i set it to 1.1.1.1, it is still using starhub's dns. when i set it to 1.0.0.1 then it is using cloudflare.
set it on the Router-level

i'm using SH's 10Gbps plan and using Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) & Google (8.8.8.8). no issues for this

i tested further. all doesn't work. let's say i set it to 8.8.8.8 and straightaway check my dns, it shows google. check again and it shows starhub again.

the dns is set at the router. i had similar problem when i was using simba.
no such problem if i set the dns in my laptop.
why use other dns. ISP dns is faster.

Which router are you using?

No such problem on HB710, I use 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8. I also set up IPv6 DNS server as well.

It is in general recommended to use 3rd party DNS for Starhub which is known to have staibility issues with its DNS servers.

1) Cloudflare Public DNS
https://developers.cloudflare.com/1.1.1.1/ip-addresses/

Pv4IPv6
1.1.1.1
1.0.0.1
2606:4700:4700::1111
2606:4700:4700::1001

2) Google Public DNS IP addresses
https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

The Google Public DNS IP addresses (IPv4) are as follows:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

The Google Public DNS IPv6 addresses are as follows:
2001:4860:4860::8888
2001:4860:4860::8844

Example setup for HB710.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/starhub-ultraspeed-5gbps-plan-launched.7024290/page-238

For people who do not want to use default Starhub DNS servers.

Example for HB710.

Need to edit the WAN connection and set the custom DNS server in the advanced settings. You can see I am using Google DNS and Cloudflare DNS here, with both IPv4 and IPv6.

There is no DoH (DNS over HTTPS) or DoT (DNS over TLS) settings available for HB710.

So what's the point in having IDS/IPS? Who wants to buy a router and to disable IDS/IPS?
Actually ASUS Ai Protection is still ok, It is the browser that has a speed limitation. Try Firefox without browser history. Can get 5.5 Gbps. black colour one.

I started using HB710 for a week now but it is a lot less stable on my PC in the room than using my old deco x20. There are frequent periods of no connection for a few minutes...
other equipment seems fine and didn't notice it on my phone but I also don't use my phone as much in my room. Any recommendation?

whatsapp...
Ya can vouch for her. Her service quite good and reply quite fast (interaction via WhatsApp). Better than through 1630/1633. I initially went through her but also filled up the form via online so 1630 called me and process my application. So I think her sales kena taken by another team. Felt bad so that's why I posted here.

She said this promo ending this weekend so if anybody is interested then better act fast.

This one depends on your preference.

You can keep using your existing Asus setup and sell the HB710 if you do not want to be able to "fully utilize the 5Gbps bandwidth given". You can change the RT-AX86U main router to use the 2.5G port as WAN port to enjoy a bit more bandwidth.

If you want to be able to "fully utilize the 5Gbps bandwidth given", then you have to keep the HB710 and get another HB710 to form the mesh. Single HB710 has worse wireless coverage than single RT-AX86U based on my own testing.

I tend to think it is a good idea to keep the existing setup since usually Asus users may not be happy with the FW features of HB710 (eg: no support of Wireguard VPN server/client and no support of OpenVPN client). You can upgrade the main RT-AX86U to something better later, like RT-BE92U.

M1 starts to offer RT-BE92U for free (as an alternative to Archer BE805), so the price may drop.

I do not use AImesh so I have retired my RT-AX82U quite some time ago. I am using RT-AX86U as an AP after OpenWRT main router.
Hi Xiaofan,

I think I will go with your suggestion to sell the HB710 and keep the current setup for the time being while waiting to get a value for money Asus Wifi 7 router - like RT-BE92U. Seem to be more cost efficient for me.

Think current carousell can fetch $170 for the HB710.

Thanks for your advice.

I just contacted the SH vendor, they say if you do not install the HB710 that come complimentary with it, they will only do up to the modem setup. You have to wired your own 3rd party router by yourself.

Any guys here using Asus routers with Starhub care to share the procedure how to setup
