if I use the Starhub tp-link hb410 on a 3Gbps line, if I need a mesh (2 additional nodes), are there any recommended nodes to get?

It is probably the best option to get two more HB410 units (S$120 x 2 = S$240), if you can use Ethernet backhaul (got LAN ports in the rooms).

If you do not have LAN ports in the rooms, then you have to prepare to pay much more. In that case, please post the floor plan with details like the FTP location and planned placement location of the three nodes.

yes. I have Lan ports in the rooms that linked to the ONT location.

So, the recommendation will be:
1 HB410 as the main router, linking out to those 2 other HB410 as satellites via ethernet. These 3 routers will then be working as a Mesh.

Is my understanding correct?

Hi @xiaofan , I have been reading your posts. Very informative. May I know why do we need a main router in the DB box? Assuming we have LAN port in the room, can we do ONT --> patch panel --> Study room LAN port --> HB710?

Study room is actually referring to the center room, basically at the centre of the entire HDB unit. Isn't it enough to just place a router at this area?

Am I missing something fundamental that require a router (HB710) in the DB box before connecting the ONT to patch panel? Thanks!

It will work however whether will there be dead zone in the house that's another story. Do you have any backup plans?

If 1 HB710 in the study room (centre of the unit) is insufficient then my backup plan will be

ONT --> HB710 #1 (in the DB box) --> patch panel --> MBR LAN port --> HB710 #2. This will give me 2 routers at both ends of my unit.

I understand that both the HB710 can form a mesh network but I hope/assume that connecting them via cable will give better overall speed & connection.

Any suggestions/comments will be very much appreciated!

Your backup should be good enough to cover the whole house. Tryout your first plan first before commiting a 2nd hb710. Good luck!

Your connection scheme will work but with a main catch -- the LAN ports in the other rooms will not work.

If you only use wireless devices and not wired devices in other rooms, then no concern.

Ahh.. Okay. Now I get you it. Thanks. So far still able to survive with wireless devices as long as the signal is good. Will upgrade again if there is a need for wired connection in the rooms in future.

No idea.

Maybe a SIMBA problem?

Do you have other routers? Just try other routers to see if you have the same problem or not. If same problem, contact SIMBA.

If no problem with other routers, then the TP-Link China routers may have issues with SIMBA.

Hi xiaofan / gurus,
Need some suggestion on mesh purchase.
I just renewed my fibre to 10gb on whizcomms. my place is about 1600sqft.
DB is among the bedrooms and whole house is wired backhaul (if i use the term correctly)
*pardon me, i dunno how to attach the floorplan. this is like my first few post after so many years... o_O
I thought of getting a 2 pack mesh, 1 at DB and another one in living room.
I usually have about 15 devices connected most of the time. at max will be 6 with usage, with the rest dormant.
All of us use wifi so very low usage on lan cable, except the home tv and study room.
Initially i started with router but after a long consideration, i think mesh will be more suitable for my application.

My budget is below $500.
Initially I was looking at models like XE200, then XE75 pro then HB710. Wanted to settle for it but reaslied it's from starhub and read tt it might not be compatible with other ISP. So i'm back to the drawing board.
I'm a noob when it comes to all these...

xiaofan, hope i post in the right chat. If it's wrong, kindly shift it. thanks a lot... 🙏

Post your floor plan to site like IMGUR then share the link here.

Please indicate the locations of the FTP, LAN ports in the rooms if any, and current router placement.

here's the floorplan.
The red cross is where DB is and also the ONT.
the blue cross is the living room with another router
I have the tv connected via wire backhaul to the ONT

All rooms are lan connected but i do not use it at the moment. Currently, only use it for study room and living room.

Hope i got it right... thanks!! 🙏

1. No so sure where is your study room. The above floor plan shows MBR, BR2, BR3, BR4, BR5 and Living Room.

2, WC uses ONR. Not so sure which ONR you get. No big difference though.
ZTE F8648P ONR --> one 10G LAN port and four 1G LAN ports
Nokia XS-240X-A ONR --> one 10G LAN port and three 1G LAN port

3. HB710 can work with other ISPs.

But I am not so sure if HB710 supports TP-Link Easymesh in AP mode or not. You may want to check with TP-Link Singapore.

Reference: TP-Link EasyMesh in AP mode
https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/697572

The problem is that TP-Link HB710 (or EB810v or HB810 or HB410 or HB611-SGST) are TP-Link service provider models and the support is not as good as consumer models (less FW features, less frequent FW bug fixes). That being said, HB710 seems to be pretty stable and I like it myself (used as the main router for Starhub 5Gbps plan but I am not using a mesh).

3.1) Option 1
If HB710 supports EasyMesh in AP mode, then you can start with two HB710 first to see how it goes.

WC ONR 10G LAN port --> Living room LAN port --> main HB710 in AP mode
WC ONR 1G LAN port --> MBR LAN port or BR3 LAN port --> second HB710 in AP mode

You may need three HB710 if two does not work well.

WC ONR 10G LAN port --> Living room LAN port --> main HB710 in AP mode
WC ONR 1G LAN port --> MBR LAN port --> second HB710
WC ONR 1G LAN port --> BR4 LAN port --> third HB710

3.2) Option 2
If HB710 does not support EasyMesh in AP mode, then it is not a good option. Deco XE75 Pro is a fine option. Archer BE230 can be cost effective option (about S$85 BNIB in Carousell). Both Deco XE75 Pro (Deco Mesh) and Archer BE230 (TP-Link EasyMesh) support Mesh in AP mode.

WC ONR 10G LAN port --> Living room LAN port --> main Archer BE230 in AP mode
WC ONR 1G LAN port --> MBR LAN port --> Archer BE230
WC ONR 1G LAN port --> BR4 LAN port --> Archer BE230

Today scheduled M1 ONT installation. Then will configure my TP Link Archer BE805.

Does anyone have a good link or video of step by step instructions how to setup and maximize configuration. Am on 6Gbps.

Bro Xiaofan, would appreciate guidance, have limited tech knowledge when it comes to router configuration. Thank you. 😊
