You can carry out the test. I tend to think HB611-SGST will have worse wireless coverage than your RT-AX88U.

My test shows that TP-Link HB710 has worse coverage than my Asus RT-AX86U. Archer BE805 has same or better coverage compared to RT-AX86U.

You may want to keep your RT-AX88U if you encounter compatibility issues or wireless coverage issues with your HB611-SGST. I keep my Asus RT-AX86U to use with legacy 2.4GHz devices.

If you want to upgrade, then Archer BE805 is probably one of the most cost effective model (less than S$300, dumpled by M1 users) to mesh with your HB611-SGST.
Thanks Xiaofan. I forgot to mentioned, I do also have a ceiling mounted UniFi nanoHD AP. Seems also not to be using as AX88u can cover my whole house.
Will test it on HB611 and see if the coverage is good or worse.

If I’m not going on using mesh system, Will Archer BE805 cover the whole house? Haha

Qualcomm apparently has demonstrated 5Gbps WiFi 7 speed using Fastconnect 7800 on a laptop (MSI Alpha 17) with Qualcomm chipset based WiFi 7 routers.

I guess it may not be easy to replicate the speed in a typical home environment. Let's see.

WiFi 7 router to WiFi 7 router wireless backhaul speed (4x4 WIFi 7, 320MHz channel bandwidth, 4096 QAM on 6GHz, 11.520 Gbps PHY speed) --> MediaTek's demo shows 10.5Gbps speed between the two routers.

Guys, need your opinion.

Which setup do you think is better for a Mesh Wifi 7 setup (with NO wired backhaul)?
If possible would prefer 1 SSID (MLO) so all my devices can connect to it.

2 x Asus BT 10

or

TP Link EB810V + HB710

TIA!

2 * Asus ZenWiFi BT10 is probably better for your use case, as it supports MLO wireless backhaul. TP-Link EasyMesh does not support that.

At least two SSIDs for BT10, one for the main MLO SSID, the other IoT SSID.

At least two SSIDs for TP-Link EB810v+HB710, one for the main 2.4GHz/5GHz SSID, the other 6GHz SSID. You may want to add one Guest Network SSID for legacy devices.

Personally I use four SSIDs for my TP-Link Archer BE805 and HB710 (not using mesh, rather as a single router): 2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz and MLO.

In terms of wireless strength, would both setup be similar?

Probably similar.

Both may have some stability issues but EB810v seems to be worse based on the reports in this forum. TP-Link is also slow in fixing the bugs. If you can avoid the TP-Link combination. Asus is faster in fixing the issues related to Asus ZenWiFi BT10.

If you have higher budget, maybe you want to look at TP-Link Deco BE85. TP-Link EasyMesh is not as mature as Deco Mesh.

I just received my TP-Link HB710. Still shrinkwrapped and not keen to use it as it's so bulky and I don't need mesh nor see a real need for wifi7 but a 2.5g WAN port will be nice.

I don't see any wifi6 routers with 2.5g WAN....is the TP-Link BE230 the next best option instead? I'm using a single Asus AX55 - streaming 3 4k shows and with other devices web surfing is no problem. No issues with reception at the furthest rooms either (previous Linksys AC router had poor reception).

HB710 is among the smaller of 10G capable triband WiFi 7 router. EB810v will be much bigger.

As for WiFi 6/6E/7 routers with dual or more 2.5G ports, please refer to the first post of the 2.5G home networking thread.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/2-5-gbps-wired-home-network.6347648/

My recommendation will be Asus TUF-AX6000 (WiFi 6, dual 2.5G ports, supported by official OpenWRT as well) or TUF-BE6500 (dual band, WiFi 7, quad 2.5G ports). China version of both will be very cost effective if you do not mind no local warranty.

GL.iNet Flint 2 GL-MT6000 is also very nice. It is running a custom version of OpenWRT. It is also supported by official OpenWRT.

All the above will be better than Archer BE230 but a bit more expensive. If you want to go with Archer BE230, that is also fine.

I see thanks. So the info hiding in the wired thread lol.

The Asus ROG will be a great match....but literally cost more than the HB710....

And the Nokia ONT runs so much warmer than the old Huawei ONT. i can only imagine the HB710 is equally power hungry with the larger adapter. The Asus AX55 is hardly warm.

Ruijie RG-EW7200BE PRO seems to be the global version of Ruijie BE72 Pro.

Linksys velop pro 7 10G (10G WAN port, 2.5G LAN ports) is a higher version of the Linksys Velop Pro (2.5G WAN, 1G LAN ports)

The following Youtube video is in Cantonese.

Hi all,

Would like to seek some here on the network equipment setup.

I am living in a 4 room hdb and currently using 2 x Google Wifi and 1 x Asus 3000p. I also have one switch in the DB box. I am using StarHub 1gbps today.

I am upgrading to the StarHub 5gbps. Can I check how should I upgrade my devices to get a better experience and enjoy the upgraded speed.

My flat is a new HDB and has wired connection to all bedrooms and I would need at least 2 access points.

Thanks in advance!

Does you plan come with the ONT plus free HB710?

Please post your floor plan with the location of the FTP, LAN ports location and the current placement location of your two Google WiFi and Asus RT-AX3000P.

Hi Xiaofan

Thank you so much. Yes it is ONT plan with the option to buy HB 710 @ 126. No free HB710 because it’s a recontract but managed to ask for a small discount if I buy the router.

Please see my current setup.

I think you can try two HB710 first.

First HB710 at S$126, second HB710 at S$192 (assuming no discount).

Main HB710 with the ONT. Then you can carry experiment to see where to put the second HB710 (eg: Bedroom 2). HB710 only has one 10G WAN port and one 10G LAN port, so the other room LAN ports will not be functional.

If you need the room LAN ports to be functional, then you may want to get EB810v as the main router (S$360) and then use the HB710 as mesh node.

Just to check if I have a switch? Then I can convert from 1 input to 4 output at the DB box right?
