Erm, perhaps just imagine each square not as individual but as group/area. They may not know each individual. But they pretty sure know the result of each group/area. Cause the individuals are grouped together in area. It may not be exact to the individual, but it enough for each area bah.

That's why got many polling centres and you have to go to the assigned one, cannot just vote in any centre you like. So they can know the distribution of votes in each estate

They dunno who u voted for, but they got a pretty good idea of the profile of ppl at each area (age distribution, race distribution, income distribution). And certain profile of ppl vote in a certain way.

They know the votes by blocks. Remember few blocks all vote in same zone and votes there are counted. They don't need to know individuals vote, they know the block count can liao. Individuals vote is 100% a secret.

If you calculate the total votes of all WP contested constituencies in 2020, WP actually has more total votes than PAP. (WP ~50.69% vs PAP ~49.31%)
