I hope that there's a counter to this. While I can accept that the intentions are good, there's certainly poor due diligence, which makes for the case of having a robust check and balance.

As Andre puts it “The situation was so serious we had to pass emergency legislation to block the deal, a deal that the NTUC publicly endorsed just two months before that",

Andre added that "“Because without proper checks and balances, without proper oversight, without people willing to challenge those in power, these kinds of decisions can be done behind closed doors".


So it's NOT just about NCM wanting Income to do well to help more people.

Come on lah, Jalan Kayu was practically designed to be a sure-win SMC. It was carved out from areas that were already strongholds under the old Punggol–Changi GRC. The outcome was never in doubt, if you look at the voting patterns and demographics, the intent behind the boundary changes is quite obvious.

In the past, the GRC system seem to favour PAP, but in recent years, it's the opposite. Probably should do away with the GRC system, everyone fight 1 v 1.
