Tan Suee Chieh's FB Post;

Letter to Voters of Jalan Kayu

Proposed Sale of Income Insurance to Allianz in 2024 and Mr Ng Chee Meng’s Accountability

I have written this Letter to the Voters of Jalan Kayu SMC (see attached document), where Mr Ng Chee Meng is seeking election as a Member of Parliament.
It concerns Mr Ng’s leadership role in the aborted sale of Income Insurance to Allianz in 2024.

Mr Ng made a very public endorsement of the proposed sale on 5 August 2024, the day before the first parliamentary debate.
Between 6 August and 14 October — when the deal was stopped in Parliament — he did not offer any clarification, even as public concerns mounted.
Ultimately, the deal collapsed following widespread public outcry and urgent intervention by the Government.

As many of you know, I was a protagonist in the public debate over this issue, which was close to my heart.
In late July 2024, I wrote privately to Mr Ng and to Ms K. Thanaletchimi, President of NTUC, to express my concerns.
I also posted extensively on social media to highlight the risks and implications. Despite these efforts, Mr Ng did not respond to my representations, nor did he publicly engage as scrutiny grew following the parliamentary debates of 6 August 2024.

Between August and October 2024, as national concern deepened, he remained silent on the key issues surrounding governance, mission, and accountability.

As Secretary-General of NTUC and a member of the NTUC Enterprise Board that approved the deal, Mr Ng bears leadership responsibility for what transpired.

Now that he seeks the trust and mandate of Jalan Kayu residents, it is fair — and necessary — for citizens to ask him to account for his role and decisions.

We live in a troubled world. Citizens must speak up on matters that affect our collective future, especially when decisions are taken in our name.
These are not acts of division; they are acts of care for our country and for the institutions we rely upon.

For a young democracy like Singapore, such open engagement is vital to our nation’s future and resilience. To be able to speak up freely is a privilege.
To speak up when one feels it matters is a citizen’s responsibility.

It is in this spirit that I write this open letter to the voters of Jalan Kayu.

An open letter means it's green light for the readers to openly share and distribute the letter. I hope this goes out to the residents of Jalan Kayu SMC.

Can use the same phrase on NCM and PAP? “Look at that. They are cowards”

If they got guts, integrity, pride and face, should have gone back to fight it out in SengKang.

maybe NCM have a lots of baggage , like income saga.
Put him in AMK, later make amk grc or get less than ideal result
This means Victor is a better than NCM. That’s why LHL took Victor and not NCM.

LW also didn’t want him to go under his wing.

Poor NCM. Even his party foresaked him.

For WP, they don't vote for the person but for the brand.
If it’s all about brand, then WP can fill any weak candidates at MP, isn’t it?

Brand is important but the candidate itself is the utmost important for the voters to choose.

but hor, isn't parachute means going down, literally
Parachute is more associated with safety.
Commercial world got golden parachute in M&A.

For this pic, it can also mean he was parachuted into "whatever" as a former general.

Imo, his party has not forsaken him. Despite the NTUC - Allianz debacle, his party still endorses him by fielding him as a candidate up for election. Which means his behavior and values are just an extension of that of his party. Deployment of candidates among the constituencies is to manage the electorate, and resources of the competitors. End of the day, they will still be rewarded, but in different ways.

I know what u meant.

But if LHL and LW really cherished him, NCM should park under a GRC with them. Guaranteed win, and NCM will be in parliament for sure. Why go through such ****?

NCM now is hot potatoe. If PAP really value him, the best endorsement wil be from the PM, so just look out for that.

CCS really articulate and perceptive - defend the role and work of labour MPs but not the decision making errors by the top.

They had a narrative

Wanted NCM to fight in a SMC and purposely carved out a supposedly very safe SMC for him to re enter parliament on his "own merits"

This plan was supposed to work until WP turned up

Imo, getting in under the wing of a GRC with a heavy weight does not solely mean the candidate is more valuable or cherished. But to make up the majority numbers in parliament with new wide eyed fresh recruits, to dilute the opposition as most would already know. How often is it that some retire as an MP when we didn't even know they existed as an MP in the very first place. 🤣 But granted being in an smc is neither here nor there for the incumbent, and his past behavior and values represents that of the current party. Husband and wife can also get divorced under changing circumstances.
