‘We must stay united so that we are able to face the challenges of tomorrow’: DPM Gan Kim Yong
DPM Gan thanked supporters after the official results of Punggol GRC were announced, and said that it was now time for everyone to unite to deal with the imminent crisis.
“There's a lot more to do, and we are facing an imminent crisis. It's a global crisis. We have talked about it many times, and it is approaching nearer and nearer, and we need to work together, work in unison,” said DPM Gan.
He added: “We must stay united so that we are able to face the challenges of tomorrow. So let's continue our work and work with our people in Punggol and with the rest of Singapore to secure a better future for Singapore.”
Punggol GRC was one of the more closely watched races in this general election after DPM Gan was moved to the constituency on Nomination Day. The PAP team won 55.17 per cent of the votes, versus 44.83 per cent for the WP team.
In his speech, he thanked the residents for their support and pledged that they will do their best to serve and make Punggol a “better place and a better home”.
“At the same time, we are also reminded that there are still people in Punggol that did not support us, but we will continue to reach out to you, to engage you, to find ways to work with you, because together, we can make Punggol much better than what it is today,” he said.
He also thanked PM Lawrence Wong and Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong for their support.
Said DPM Gan: “I want to thank Prime Minister Lawrence Wong for his decision to relocate me to Punggol and make me the task force man. I must also thank Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who has helped to walk the ground and won many votes with his presence in Punggol.”
