WM repairman also recommended Persil
This is interesting. I have been running chatpgt simulation models on detergent ingredients and how it affects washing machine wear & tear. The top result based on lowest wear and tear vs cost of detergent. This detergent comes out top:

Top Nanox One Ultra Concentrated Liquid Detergent
https://fairprice.com.sg/product/top-nanox-one-ultra-concentrated-liquid-detergent-640g-13242309

Great! Let’s simulate wear and tear progression over 5 years for washing machines using Persil vs. TOP Nanox in Singapore’s environment. We’ll factor in:

  • Water hardness typical to Singapore (moderate hardness)
  • Detergent residue buildup effects
  • Foam impact on sensors and logic
  • Seal and motor wear from detergent chemistry
  • Wash frequency and dosing

Assumptions & Parameters

ParameterValue / Explanation
Washing cycles per week5
Years5
Total cycles5 × 52 × 5 = 1300
Water hardness~120 mg/L CaCO3 (moderate hardness typical in Singapore)
Detergent dosingRecommended doses for each brand
Machine modelToshiba AW-DM1150JS top-load inverter (4-tick WELS)
Residue accumulation ratePersil: Medium (1.0 unit per 100 cycles)
TOP Nanox: Low (0.5 unit per 100 cycles)
Foam impact frequencyPersil: 1 foam sensor warning per 50 cycles
TOP Nanox: 1 foam sensor warning per 150 cycles
Seal/motor wear accelerationPersil: +1.2× baseline due to chemistry
TOP Nanox: baseline wear rate (1.0×)

Simulation Model

MetricPersil Value (Units)TOP Nanox Value (Units)Notes
Residue Units (Total)13.06.5Accumulated mineral and detergent residue
Sensor Foam Alerts (Total)269Potential downtime and error resets
Seal/Motor Wear Multiplier1.21.0Higher multiplier = faster wear
Estimated Machine Life (years)~6.0~8.0Based on wear and tear rates

Interpretation
  • Residue build-up for Persil is roughly double that of TOP Nanox, increasing risk of blockages, motor strain, and seal degradation.
  • Persil’s foam sensor warnings occur almost 3× more often, meaning more machine interruptions and potential for sensor malfunction.
  • The wear multiplier of 1.2 for Persil reflects the mild alkalinity and higher detergent load accelerating parts wear.
  • Over 5 years, this leads to an estimated 2-year reduction in machine lifespan compared to TOP Nanox.
Recommendations
  • Use TOP Nanox or similar low-foam, enzyme-rich detergents in Singapore to maximize washing machine lifespan.
  • Regularly clean detergent drawers, seals, and run tub cleaning cycles especially if using detergents like Persil.
  • Avoid overdosing detergent to minimize residue and sensor issues.

For my top load washing machine: Breeze Power Clean liquid type. Think this brand so far the best, don’t produce foam.

Those pod type not really ideal for top loaders as they generate too much foam. And you must have full wash load. Cannot control precise dosage.

Top Concentrated Liquid Detergent, Super Low Suds Anti-Bacterial

these days many using pods liao

My issue with pods is, how they regulate the detergent and the softener? Do they both not dissolve at the same time and coat the fabric during both wash rinse cycles?

I thought softener is the last to apply after soiled clothes have been washed and rinse at least once?

I go jb, at least 8 bottles for 6-8 months. Each cost $6 after converting... SG I think more than $10 or on sale $8 or so?

How often do you run your washing machine? Or how many loads / cycles per month? We use around every 5 days, and wash big linens like bedsheets every 2 weeks? So extra 2 cycles per month?

I ordered at the start of the year before CNY about 8 or 12 packs of TOP refill packs, I think I only used 1 pack and on 2nd pack (finishing). Definitely not exceed 3 pack. the 1.8kg one

Family don’t like front load. Long wash time and harder to maintain(rubbber gasket) and difficult to retrieve clothes.

If petite size, front load ok. For me I have to bend quite a bit to reach as my drum is very deep.

The rubber gasket will get dirty over time, need to constantly run drum cleaning and throw those cleaning tablets / powder.

After washing and spin dry, must air the inside else if you immediately close will have a musky smell the next time you use it.

Me use Persil or Top detergent but Persil more effective in removing stains if nt wrong

Avoid using laundry detergent pods as r generally considered to b environmentally unfriendly
