Even re-contract, they also need to charge ONT Installation fees? Any way to get it waiver?

Ported in to m1 6gbps BB from starhub. Activated today.

Router TP Link Archer BE805 in living room -> concrete wall -> PC located in bedroom.
Unfortunately my PC network card only wifi 6e and i don't have any wifi 7 supporting devices for testing.

Wifi speed test results

Although i am not enjoying the max speeds for the plan, i am not in any pressing need to change to a wifi 7 network card.

Does the 6gbps plan not come with free digital voice? Trying to sign up directly from the m1 site but seeing a bunch of charges.
My port-in 6gbps plan comes with fixed home voice which i assume is digital voice?

Still on M1 gamer 1 gbps at $54. Saw the promo for their new plans but I feel like all the new routers aren’t so good. Only good one seems to be Tp link AX11000 but I prefer Asus.

MR has better routers but they asking quite ridiculous prices, and they still using cgnat or static ip. $60++ for the Asus ones.

Maybe should continue using the TUF AX6400 but recontract to 2.5/3 gbps? Then maybe run a dedicated line to room and another for rest of house.

Is the 3Gbps the best value for money plan now?
With RT-BE58U a better choice router?

  • Choose 1 for free: TP-Link Archer BE230 (worth $199), ASUS RT-BE58U (worth $219)

Be230 has additional 2.5gbe port if you need it. Be58u has more ram and Asus generally has better software.

If you backtrack a bit in this thread, I believe xiaofan did share that the 6Gbps $34.90 package is the best value one by far, even more so if you do sell the BE805 router that comes with it (if you already have your own decent router to use). So you end up paying less per month while on a 6Gbps network. Alternatively, could sell the BE805 router, and buy a pair of BE230 from Carousell for an Easymesh 2.5G setup, and you still have cash left. Which I kinda regret not doing so 😔

Is there a one time charge for ONT installation charge? or is it the same as activation?

ONT installation charge: $123.41

Too bad they don't offer the Asus equivalent, BE25000. Might just go for the 6gbps and BE92U. 3gbps plan only offers BE58U.

MR has BE25000 but $70 plan and still need to top up $150.

Only downside of BE92U is it doesn't have the easy opennat game portforwarding and other game related stuff.

If i subscribe to 3Gbps plan or higher, can I use my old 500mbps ont if the XSGPON is too hot?
Just that my speed will be capped at 2.5Gbps?

If I'm with M1 fibre (contract over) at my current house, and I'm moving house soon, can I "recontract" at my new house?
Or must be new sign up?

best to check with M1, but don't think so. Its either recontract at current service address then pay for relocation or terminate current service address and sign up new one.

telcos are more interested in "new" customers than keeping existing ones. Unless there's special reason like retaining home line tel no , easier to just sign new line at new house and then terminating old one. This way you don't even have to pay the relocation fee.

But usually for those that have landline, there's a need to retain it since it's probably been in use for a long time, and where the dilemma comes :s13:

so long as its a change in ISP/service address, by right need to pay the netlink port activation which is the "relocation" fee. Just that for new sign ups to secure the business, M1 waives that.

it was the same for me with the 3gbps plan i recontracted too. Waited for a few months till it was available for me to sign up for. I think they couldn't increase capacity fast enough, so priortize certain areas first.
