Did you see any spark or burnt smell when it trip?
If yes, most likely the connecting cable. Sometime the installer use cheapo thin cable. Call the normal electrician if this is the case.

be happy that the safety feature kicks in and trip your circuit. if i were you i would just pay to buy a new one.

exactky. If tripped means safety feature is working

is a signal to get a new one and stop using the current one. :(

How much did you pay for the heater?

Personally, I would rather replace the entire thing.
$273. But i was thinking that if it was a simple heating elemetn issue, it would be much cheaper to repair...

Our Joven heater is now causing the circuit breaker to trip every time we try to turn it on. Purchased in March 2023, i think its just past the 2 year warranty period.

Is this something that can be fixed if we call a technician? Or do we need to buy a brand new one? If we need to buy, can anyone recommend a reliable brand? A water heater should not be breaking 2 years after we purchased it...
Typical problem is heating element spoil, since it happened after a few years.

My own experience, I chop chop buy a copper interior one with mistral. Shop arrange electrician for me.

within a week, sparks fly at the junction, circuit trip. basket, the electrician, nv do a good job, some more use aluminium cables for this. Zzz

No.

Joven wants $70+ diagnostic fee because its not under warranty anymore. Not sure what the full charge is like but i suspect will be quite expensive. Where to find a technician to repair without getting chopped?
$70 for just diagnose. after that is parts and labour, plus waiting time. if you value your family time and safety, just go to gain or courts or neighbourhood shop, get something that comes with free installation and removal.

If you think that you are the type who can't shake off the nagging thought of 'what if it's not just the heating element", maybe just replace the entire unit.

Called two places. They want $220-240 to repair, including transport. WTF, is this normal?

Purchase a new water heater with installation included. The installer will handle both the removal of the old unit and the installation of the new one.
