So long story short, this intern took 4 days of MC in 1 month of work, keeps coming late and is very lazy at work... :(

I keep encouraging the intern to at least do the bare minimum so I can give the intern a pass grade at least. But the intern don't listen... :(

My other interns start complaining why this intern wasn't terminated. They said like this might as well they take MC and come late. I told them their grades will be higher than that intern but they don't care... :(

Fearing a revolt at my workplace, moi decided to terminate the intern. The intern's teacher beg moi for a 2nd chance because she cannot get an in house programe for the intern as there is only 1 more week before the end of internship and the intern must retain 1 more year at ITE... :(

i did the same thing before many years ago, same ****... , mc, mia, lousy attitude, sleep during working hour, etc. 1 week can have 2 days mc, then subsequent week mia, didnt report to work and didn't inform, i warn him already and the week after same **** again... just barely 1 mth into the internship, i get HR to call the school to terminate his internship. really, with such attitude, let him graduate also wont do the society and him good. he is not ready to go out to the real working world. Better learn some basic proper discipline before go out to the real world.

And what is so wrong to allow the student to graduate? Some students are not motivated in school/internship so they are better off just quickly graduating and moving on to the real world. They will eventually learn...

So far I've terminated 2 person. One was a lady who kept playing mobile games at work and a chef who didn't follow kitchen's SOP resulting in molds found in tubs of sauces.

When comes to work, as long given second chance yet no improvement, just show them the door.

i think u should have made effort to learn his reasons for being late

if its due to certain medical conditions, family matters, or other valid reasons, then some empathy would have been reasonable.

otherwise, it is understandable to fire him. but certainly dont do it based on assumptions

No.. he knew “it’s the end” when he can only make it to ITE

I've been in similar position.

Called intern in. Had a direct, minced no words talk, and gave a last buck up chance. Ask intern if he understood.

He completed his internship. I gave a pass grade and added inputs and suggestions.
