[SINGAPORE] Manpower Minister Tan See Leng urged fresh graduates and parents to “stay calm” amid growing anxieties about the tough job market, noting that early data suggests improved prospects for this year’s cohort.

The job market has generally remained resilient, he said, with more job vacancies than job seekers as of March: 1.64 vacancies per unemployed person.

“We have heard concerns about these fresh graduates, who may face anxieties starting their careers in these turbulent times,” he said at a media briefing by the Singapore Economic Resilience Taskforce on Thursday (Jul 10).

“We understand the anxieties but we want them to be assured that there is support available,” he added.

According to early data for the 2025 cohort of fresh graduates, employment rates are higher than for last year’s batch, he noted.

“Based on a very preliminary MOM (Ministry of Manpower) study, employment rate as at June 2025 is 51.9 per cent,” the minister said. This is slightly higher than the June 2024 rate of 47.9 per cent.

Young graduates and their parents who are part of the 65% will put their vote to test. They deserve the Gov they voted for. I am sure when they voted their Gov, they had every confidence their Gov will solve all their problems.

This Tsl must be under pressure everyday
He only needs to please his boss.

There is no KPI that the Govt has announced for unemployment/underemployment... can only infer from GDP forecast.

Otherwise YOU get a chance to "evaluate" his performance every 5 yrs.

So how about the sandwiched pmets?

1. retrenched
2. contract not renewed
3. slashed pay
4. moved to lower job designation within the company

how they pay for the kids and hdb?

Now they concern graduates.

Older folk gonna have to wait their turn for focus

Since only 51% get jobs, those 49% remaining should go for security or cleaning industry

There are many types of people who even being terminated/retired also don't want to work

1) people who stay in landed/condo or own properties
2) people who are well supported by their children
3) people who are rich or have savings
4) people who hold high qualifications
5) many elderly/middle age people who don't know english

So deducting these people you say how many are left in the 49% unemployed pool?

That's why takeup rate for skillfuture courses is low
