most hawkers operate as sole proprietor, so, yes. all earnings above their overheads are theirs to keep. likewise for losses.

and i see from the vid, likely separate charge for plastic cups. their usual dabao is plastic bag with rubberband.

but lets assume 30cents/cup alrdy include cost of plastic cup.

say 1kg soya bean can make 10l of soya milk. 10l = 40cups
1kg soya bean assume $2

the cost of soya milk is 5cents a cup. add 2cents for plastic cup, 1cent for ice, is 8cents a cup.
selling at 30cents, thats 22cents profit per cup.

just selling 30cent soya milk alone, to breakeven, they need sell ~3.2k cups a month, or ~160cups a day if they work 20days a month.

anything beyond that, is their income.

this is not taking into account the other higher profit items.

so yeah, they are not exactly losing out. they are just earning lesser. and their lackof rental and labour is the only reason they are able to sustain this.

They first generation hawker

Got house got car all mortgage clear liao

No need 1 month 4k , maybe total earn 3k good enough for them

Everyday got something to do no need idle at home

They are selling tau huay chwee, NOT tau ni. 2 different things. Tau huay chwee is soy bean milk ADD water. Tau ni then is pure soy bean milk like what you get at Mr Bean etc.

Hence 1kg soya bean 10l soya milk. Google ai says 6 to 8l from 1kg soya beans. So this 1 is thinner so 10l is reasonable
