most hawkers operate as sole proprietor, so, yes. all earnings above their overheads are theirs to keep. likewise for losses.
and i see from the vid, likely separate charge for plastic cups. their usual dabao is plastic bag with rubberband.
but lets assume 30cents/cup alrdy include cost of plastic cup.
say 1kg soya bean can make 10l of soya milk. 10l = 40cups
1kg soya bean assume $2
the cost of soya milk is 5cents a cup. add 2cents for plastic cup, 1cent for ice, is 8cents a cup.
selling at 30cents, thats 22cents profit per cup.
just selling 30cent soya milk alone, to breakeven, they need sell ~3.2k cups a month, or ~160cups a day if they work 20days a month.
anything beyond that, is their income.
this is not taking into account the other higher profit items.
so yeah, they are not exactly losing out. they are just earning lesser. and their lackof rental and labour is the only reason they are able to sustain this.
