Any land beyond east coast road to the sea is reclaimed land which is sand. Sand is nvr stable.

Example of sand reclaimed land r marina south/east, jurong island, changi airport, tekong.

There is pressure to quickly open the road in the affected area to traffic. However by just filling up the collapse/expose part pf the sinkhole will not address the problem completely. The ground loss area is much larger than the expose sinkhole. Should trace the ground loss starting from the water main burst area the night before to all the way to the surrounding of the sewer construction shaft. This ground loss area if not remedied, it will be a matter of time, will cause ground settlement which may result in pipe burst.

Think the driver froze, don't know how to react. If the driver ram on the accelerator the moment felt the sinking feeling, maybe got chance to clear it before it collapsed fully. There is a few seconds before the road totally gave way and sink.

There is a big hole there but driver car did not drop to direct hole consider lucky.
