OYK / his minions blur or intentionally mislead? Seetoh did say use of the blue basket SPACE, OYK's statement become use of the blue basket. Who knows the contract said "shall", but you can just don't do it and there won't be any punishment?
same story as how ppl are complaining about the influx of PMET FTs, but MIW like to say FWs are very necessary for the country.

Conflict of interest is the norm in SG. Just look at LHL and his wife. One a former PM, the other a former head of Temasek.

The rot starts from the top.

They do is Consolidation of Interests…

Other pple do is Conflict of Interests…

MiW trying to twist meaning of "shall"... I expect million dollar ministers to be somewhat proficient in English.
In legal terms, the word "shall" denotes a mandatory obligation or duty, meaning the subject of the sentence is required to perform an action. While traditionally used in legal writing, its meaning can sometimes be ambiguous, leading some modern legal drafters to prefer the word "must" for clarity to avoid confusion with a mere future intention.

Key Aspects of "Shall" in Contracts
  • Mandatory Duty: "Shall" imposes an enforceable duty or commitment on a party.

  • Imperative Command: It functions as a command, contrasting with permissive words like "may".

  • Example: "The Company shall pay the Purchase Price on the Closing Date".

  • Ambiguity: Despite its traditional mandatory meaning, "shall" can sometimes be interpreted as precatory (advisory) or even "may" (permissive) depending on context, leading to potential litigation.
Modern Drafting Practices

  • Use "Must":
Many legal writing experts recommend replacing "shall" with "must" for clearer, more direct obligations to avoid ambiguity and ensure clarity of intent.
  • Define "Shall":
In some complex legal documents, "shall" is explicitly defined within the contract to confirm its mandatory nature.
In Summary
While "shall" is historically a word of mandatory obligation in legal writing, its use can lead to ambiguity. To ensure your meaning is clear and to avoid potential disputes, using the word "must" to express a mandatory duty is often the preferred and safer approach in modern contracts.

actually the things seetoh raise is not new...

it's all covered here:

https://www.straitstimes.com/life/d...rous-rules-is-too-much-being-asked-of-hawkers

ST asked NEA to what extent SEHC contracts are standardised and how much oversight NEA exercises over such hawker centres, to which the agency replied that operators have the discretion to vary rent according to the type of food sold.

Below is screenshot of article in case article gets removed:

So many supporters of KF Seetoh when he whack government. But when he campaigns for higher hawker prices, the same people condemn him.
Higher prices is because those hawkers operating at paper-thin margin with skyrocketing rent and other costs, etc.

Thus he understand thos situation and hopes to fight for their plight. Same actors behind this situation is the greedy landlords, etc. causing the entire situation to happen right now.

But I agree that it should not be us nor the hawkers to pay for the greed of these landlords. They continue to jack up rent to fund their GCBs, Conti/BMWs, expensive vacations overseas and luxury goods purchases, etc.

Both we and the hawkers are in the same boat actually, we should understand and sympathise with each other more.

“The space isn’t ours, it belongs to NEA. If you want to use it, of course you have to pay,” said the 65-year-old.

“It doesn’t matter that much to me, it’s S$70 a month … There are some people who can’t bear to spend the money, so those people will complain.”

“If you’re here earning money from everyone every day, shouldn’t you give back to the community a bit? Two meals a day is manageable,” said Mr Ow, adding that he already gives free meals away to those who need them.

Hawkers were also aware of the clauses when they signed their leases, he stressed. “If you want to sign the contract, then you should follow it. Don’t sign the contract, then complain about it.”

154 at it best  Interview the RIGHT person , no ashley wu this time.

Ahh now the silence is explained...

Borrow a (bunk)knife pls?
Favourite MIW playbook, once again OYK and Gang obfuscate the entire incident by misdirecting it (by trying to switch the main topic to something else to direct public's attention to it).

They just wait for entire issue to blow over and then during GE time come out with chicken wing gestures, etc. again. Su Haijin incident not too long ago only.

After all, what can CDC Vouchers, $1 meals and free shuttle bus services, etc. not solve right?

OYK had to refute, before this truth issue became a snowball!
KFS is right! If not binding, why stated in the contract???

There is no more ball if the operator and OYK go into radio silence mode.
KFST can make all the noise he want.

Expected something when there was no POFMA issued.

Think maybe got chance Food Canopy may perhaps be Kaki lang, and tied to the MIWs one.

Not common for these people to have such privileges after currying favouring with them (some go serve as grassroots, etc.)
