it is not like he can use this degree to do IT related work or stuff

too general degree, don’t know what it that for, and even if apply for government job, does the employer (government agencies) accept him?

but to say the truth, this kind of degree program just remove in university, you don’t see FTs having such general degree, all having specialised degree like IT, Comp science, engineering, etc

Just curious how much then is easy, 2k? But then thought median is like 5+ 6k. Put out that kind of number of course lead people to expect much more lah. People compare. What do they expect.

Think in other places, ang-moh places, general degree also can get job. They hired from wide spectrum. Think vaguely remembered got saw on social media one was very generic degree but got in to Google such tech related company. Perhaps only local its more difficult, as market too small, jobs too limited and mindset too rigid.

Think not uncommon many are waiting for the top to kick the bucket so that they can take over. Alot of situations are somewhat like, this displace that (sack old and expensive hire young cheaper better faster), bottom displace top (cheaper better faster), FT displace locals (cheaper better faster). The jobs don't really grow that much, just seeing who displace who.

The joker who majored in anthropology should count himself lucky to have been able to secure a job so quickly. This kind of useless major usually end up in civil service or academia, most private enterprises wouldn’t need him.

Think now the trend have stretched and shifted to not just about unemployment, but further to money not enough even when employed. As more and more are expected to and taking up lesser jobs earning lesser, just so to get by. Not to mention the escalating and high cost of living. One or two salary family where got enough.

Thus, not enough for the needs, especially those with family. Therefore the insecurity is not just a job but a job that pays enough. A reason why perhaps now gigs jobs are on the rise with many doing it on the side, besides the main job.

Very good advice! As these jobs only citizens are eligible. Basically 99% no competition from foreigners except for some outsourced non sensitive roles.

If I have kids I will tell them the same thing. Keep volunteering to participate in humanitarian missions at warzones. If can get promote consistently then carry on with second contract.

If not move on to civilian life. By then should have accumulated a lot of savings from SFI cookhouse meals coupled with good money management skills.

Post army/police career just sell atas kopi on Grabfood in own flat to earn some living expenses.

Lie half flat and enjoy life. By then only late 30s or early 40s nia.

Many are sold that their life have became better. But is it really so. Better in what sense. Last time one income can feed a family, a rather large family. Then it became two incomes then can feed a family, a rather small family. And now multiple incomes then is enough for the needs, many which have little or no family perhaps.
