Think this is a stupid question, no value added for future worker
Actually most of the engineering maths, equations formula learned in school not used at work. Got softwares to do the calcution, only need to input the parameters.

Maybe the programmers, phd researchers then got use the maths manually at work.

My take:

The answer is
a) Cannot be determined
b) Cannot be determined

Maybe that question means to test the ability to analyze and reason.

Dear all,

(a) 41-18 = 23 + 3 = 26 , therefore AB = 26cm
(b) (26+18+18)+(23+23+26) = 134 and 26-18=8. Therefore 134+8 = 142 + 3 = 145 cm

Confidence for the future. More good years ahead... Let us take Singapore forward together.
Thank you.

Not tough, but cannot imagine if kid doing this, will be tough. No need use algebra, just proportions from the clues given

Side AB = 18 + x
Move triangle 3 out until it touches triangle 2.
Then 41 + 3 + x = 2 ( 18 + x )
Solve for x.
QED.
