Red Velvet’s Joy is set to take over the small screen with ‘One of a Kind Romance’.

On September 30th KST, industry sources confirmed that Joy has been cast as the female lead in the drama adaptation of the popular webtoon ‘One of a Kind Romance’.

Based on the webtoon serialized on Naver in 2018 by author Dubu, the drama tells the story of Gong Yu Il, an ordinary job seeker whose daily life is turned upside down when top star Tak Mu Yi and idol Ryu Min suddenly enter her world, sparking a romance filled with heart-fluttering moments.

Joy will play the female protagonist Gong Yu Il, a resilient young woman who never loses her smile despite tough circumstances. While working part-time at a convenience store and preparing for employment, she secretly dreams of becoming a writer. By chance, she crosses paths with former child actor and now top star Tak Mu Yi, setting the stage for a blossoming relationship.

With the original webtoon’s immense popularity, anticipation is high for its live-action remake. Casting Joy—often described as a “human vitamin” and “ray of sunshine in the entertainment world”—is already being hailed as a perfect match, with fans praising the role’s “200% synchronicity.”

This marks Joy’s return as actress Park Soo Young after nearly four years. She has previously showcased her wide acting spectrum in titles such as ‘The Liar and His Lover’, ‘Tempted’, ‘Only One Person’, and ‘Once Upon a Small Town’—earning recognition for her ability to pull off everything from fresh and bright characters to alluring and intense roles. Expectations are high for what she will deliver in ‘One of a Kind Romance’.
