Recevied a recontract offer for Myrepublic. Im currently on 1 gbps

a) 1gbps @ $34.99 / month for 24 months
Overall = $839.76 for 2 years

b) OR

3gbps @ $30.99 / month for 24 months
+ $50 topup for TP-Link BE230
+ $29.90 topup for installation
Overall $823.66 for 2 years

Qns
1. Makes sense to go with 3gbps right? lol cheaper.
2. Hows BE230?
3. Im currently using old TP Link EX510, can i use it as repeater to cover some parts of house?

Thanks!
better get M1 3Gbps only $32.90 can choose TP-link BE230. installation also free no need to pay anything . in 2 year cost u $789.6. both Router can link EasyMesh. main ONT connect to BE230 as 2.5Gbps wan port

1. 3Gbps but u need to add in the installation fee as it is necessary to have ONT change if only cost is concerned (i.e. you dont need beyond 1Gbps)
2. BE230 does not have 6Ghz band if you need it, so 50 dollars for WiFi 7 benefits (that you might enjoy and feel it, probably not. lol) like MLO, better latency (i feel this for 6Ghz only yes but this router dont have), 4K QAM etc etc.
3. Dont think it supports AP mode that connects to main router via wireless or the mesh mode

I would say if need, invest further in better equipment, if not invest 50 for the BE230. i think is OK

Received email from MR for recontract offer
3gbps 29.99 free be230 free installation
10gbps 33.99 free hb710 free installation.

Looks like they trying to catch up in pricing.
How many days before contract end did they send this out? I’m due for recontract this month and haven’t received the offer so I was wondering if I should wait or just go with another ISP.

i recently switched from Starhub to Myrepublic and my xiaomi home is not able to sync anymore (unable to see cloud and no notifications). What could be the issue?
I've been suffering the same problem too... For a year+ now

Not into smart home stuff but my guess is this is because of CGNAT (no public IPv4 address).

Have you got the static IPv4 add-on at one time charge of S$51?
https://myrepublic.net/sg/static-ip/
I have the static IPv4 add-on. But it doesn't seem to be working

How do I get MR to get my Xiaomi Home working again?

Static or no, doesn't matter for cloud based smart home devices.

If it was working previously when on starhub, then guessing might be DNS issue? Can try different DNS server from router?

Ditto? from https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads...hina-mainland-server.73671/page-3#post-751353 :
Ok so I was able to fix it by manual assigning dns 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 in my router configuration. Hope it will help someone in my same situation.

Hey all is the differences between hyperspeed and gamer big? Is everyday things like streaming downloading all those slower on the gamer profile?? Or isit the same just that additional gaming latency reduction

you get better China routes too

Old test results below, consolidated by @seowbin on 04-Feb-2024, which may still be valid.

Reference: Fastest ISP thread. M1 and SIMBA may not be good for China contents.

Those on the 3gbps plan, how’s your speeds?

Edit: turns out I don’t have any devices that support wifi7. Oh well, for the future I guess. 😆

Its bandwidths if you have multiple networks running on the days basis routine.
If the download is capped, even 50gbps also useless over here.
Unless you have only minimum usage on network then even 1gbps is more than enough.
WIFI 7 gimmick in hdb unless you living in 3-story landed then its another story.

This seems to be a niche plan which kind of compete with the Singtel Home Priority Plan but seems to be much better.

1. MyRepublic HaloHome
https://myrepublic.net/sg/halohome/

What is MyRepublic HaloHome?

MyRepublic HaloHome delivers customised Wi-Fi solutions as the foundation of the modern home, complementing them with integrated IT and smart-home services, such as CCTV, doorbells, and more. The result is a truly seamless and convenient living experience where connectivity and technology work effortlessly together.

Dedicated Account Manager

Personalised On-Site Consultation

Tailored Network Design

Enterprise-grade Equipments

Expert Installation & Setup

2. Singtel Home Priority Plan

It is still stuck with 2Gbps and lousy SingTel WiFi 6esh solution (4 units) at S$89.64 per month, free Apple Watch S8 GPS 41mm.

Hi guys, I just realized that myrepublic either throttles my bitorrent or is there any setting to set? I am getting only 100 kbps before this I was on starhub and it was just plug and play.

On the 10 GPS normal plan

On the 10 GPS normal plan

MyRepublic claims not to throttle bit torrent traffic.
https://support.myrepublic.net/en/articles/8836240-does-myrepublic-throttle-the-network

Starhub actually throttle bit torrent traffic.

Maybe it is related to CGNAT. You may need to pay for Static IPv4 add-on. The price is very reasonable at S$51 one-time charge.
https://myrepublic.net/sg/static-ip/

Reference:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/simba-broadband-isp-throttle-torrent.7161369/

I read from the megathread that
1) Viewquest=MyRepublic (almost no throttling) >
2) M1 >=Starhub (a bit of throttling) >
3) SingTel (pretty heavy throttling) > Whizcomms (worst); throttling of BT and things like Google Drive Download

How about SIMBA Broadband? Does this throttle at all? Which category?

For torrents its a bit more nuanced, as it will depend on where the peers are...

If the peers are local there shouldn't actually be any throttling, if the peers are foreign it may be intentionally throttled or it may just be slower due to distance, especially if they are in europe or the americas.

For torrent clients which encrypt traffic between peers and to the tracker, network based traffic management shouldn't be able to identify the traffic as torrents.

Consider however that Simba uses CGNAT which means you will not be able to receive inbound connections over IPv4. If other peers are also behind restrictive NAT which prevents inbound connections then you cannot peer with them. You will be able to peer over IPv6 with any peers that support it. This also means that you won't be peering with other Simba customers unless you're both using IPv6. Peering with local users on the same ISP is usually the fastest and won't usually be subject to any traffic management measures at all as the traffic remains internal to the ISP (ie they don't have to pay any transit fees).

Depending on what torrents you are downloading, being stuck behind CGNAT could severely reduce your speeds as a lot of other users will be stuck behind CGNAT and may not have IPv6, or even without CGNAT have not configured port forwarding for single level NAT.
