I recall that It hosted at least 10 expatriates on Sunday sharing beer and finger food, along with a few of their bronzed female companions. It may be worthwhile to try their tapas.

I like how detailed you are when describing the female companions. :s13: We are much more used to food descriptions around here such as deep fried golden wings or that slightly burnt yellow orrrh jieh !

Bookmarked the tapas place !

hmm all this time i select "credit card account". maybe i go try select "saving account"...
Should be "savings account", <S$400 equivalent per month to avoid fees, and the ATM PIN is 4-digit in the world of almost everything is 6-digit now, including YT app PIN. That much I bear in mind. :o

citrine area seems more family friendly type (expat)
even locals prefer chilling at putri harbour or horizon hill instead of citrine...

why not? it's tastier than those hawker's hong kong soy sauce chicken
Ya, no doubt. Chicken styles to me are either deep-fried natural colors or tumeric. Black sauce would be braised. Fried kee chup... maybe with plain basmatic rice instead of nasi lemak. Fried kee chup chicken is already very flavorful, plus nasi lemak macam a bit too much, jelak... :o

But well, if I reach the place with a damn hungry stomach, I sure wallop! :s13:

Agree, fried and braised are totally different thing. Mix together taste and stomach both also got conflict :ROFLMAO:

haha even ayam penyet was braised first before deep fried, that's why the meat so tender and no raw blood near the bone. those sous vide fancy chefs probably learned from malay food, slowly cook meat in its own juice and aromatics, then deep fried/blow torch for the finish touch

But not with black sauce, right?

Partial-cook meats before frying, that's what I'd do too, but to soak in black sauce before deep-frying... add more kee chap while frying... OK, maybe if their sambal can compliment really well... 😆 And I'd want to ask for plain rice (or Nasi Kerabu) too.

Anyway, when you get to try, please remember to share your review here.

after rewatching the video...
actually not even marinated, just dipped & dunked before deep frying
if pause the video, can see the meat already white color before put inside the black liquid, means it's already boiled
so technically, the cooking is almost same as chinese roasted chicken, just difference is chinese one use maltose+vinegar to coat the skin and never add those extra kicap manis while frying...

Yup, I noticed the first time that the chicken wasn't raw before he dropped them into the kicap. Otherwise with that thick coating, it'd take even longer to cook. :s13:

But seriously, I feel that'd go very well with Nasi Kerabu.

Stayed at Tasek Cental hotel for the first time since Covid19. It has changed a fair bit, a brand new wing, a free playground (copy VivoCity kind), but it was quite quiet on a Monday, which was our intention. Intentionally wanted to skip the KSL night market and Austin crowd because of the PSLE marking day holiday.

The new Wan to play indoor playground was not bad, the kids enjoyed their time there. There’s tons of food around, kind of like Manhattan, minus the alcohol, vapes, China escorts and pet cafes. It’s more family friendly I would say. The store supermarket is big but not as big as Aeon or lotus’s. Not as much variety and slightly more expensive.

Hako hotel was good, surprised there’s free breakfast (eggs, butter, kaya, bread, biscuit) and free flow coffee/tea all day. The room with sofa bed was just nice for 4 of us. We brought our air bed and wanted to give one of the kids a try but end up the sofa bed was quite big, enough of two fo them. The Wifi was a bit slow but manageable. The only bad thing is no free parking, and have to find your own lots. They have only 2 lots for customers and it’s full most of the time. The parking attendant very on, 8.20am already started taking number plates. I paid using my Parkmax app.

The wife say our next stay maybe try the square hotel since the price is the same, we don’t eat the breakfast anyway, and they have two queen/king beds rooms. We also visited Lotus’s Mutiara rini for the first time since 8-9 years ago, and it’s quite different from Tebrau and Bukit Indah lotus’s, the crowd has noticeably less Chinese. The seven castle indoor playground was huge and cheap, and also deserted on a Monday afternoon.

All in all, a good trip, Johor Bahru really very big, the places to visit never end!

Thanks for sharing ! Have been eyeing at Hako hotel for a while but I hesitated as many people commented there's a club nearby which is very loud disturbing sleep at night. Sounds like you didn't experience that ?
