Actually not many people in SG have struggles in life.
Life is actually very good. But the culture is such that it is bad if one don't have struggles and unhappiness in SG. It is bad to be happy.

That's why SGrean are trained to complain and see the things they don't have can't have and complain about it.

LKY was one of the best complainers. Nitpick everything complain. Then SG get better and better.
