Hi all,

I recently going to start renovation and currently I’m struck at my aircon costing. The unit has existing aircon units which I’m doing a full replacement. Asked a few companies and they all have extra charges for “conceal piping”.

But my logic is, I’m doing a full renovation. My ID will need to do the conceal to put up tiles. So why do I still need to pay the “conceal piping” to the aircon installer? The route all follow existing aircon route. Is this normal charges that you guys pay for?

The installer quoted $1k++ for 6 units just on “conceal piping”. Can you guys share your experience? Is this charge fair?

Better check your reno on the scope of work.

They do hack and conceal of aircon pipes ?

If no, then aircon installer has to do the hacking first right ?

If yes, then you tell aircon installer about the hacking and concealing job by your reno.

My quotation definitely included hacking. Hence that’s why I’m thinking why should I pay the aircon guys for conceal piping. I specifically mentioned that we doing major reno (full overhaul). But yet to my surprise they still came back to include conceal piping as additional cost. Hence, wanted to check in with you guys who have done major reno with change of aircon how does this works. Most of my frens that I asked, they say ID concealed for them.

Did you make clear that all trucking are currently exposed and do not require concealment after installation? If not then there is still a need to hack your existing fixture to access the old trunking etc.

Is what the outcome you assumed from hacking the same as the outcome the AC contractor needs in order not to charge for conceal pipping?

Why you didn't ask your friend for their AC contractor to ask if the same?

Mines a 2 bedder condo.
I was JUST quoted this for 3 Aircon units.
I'm as puzzled as you. They are only hacking 2 new small holes to connect common to master room to master toilet + use back the same holes nearer the compressor. I was quoted for long piping + hack and concealment.

$4.8k for 3 Aircon units. Is that normal?

Mitsubishi Heavy R32 5tick rocket series Wifi
System 3 (12+12+18)
SCM40YS-W/SRK13YYS-W8 x 2 + SRK18YYS-W8
$3999 included gst
Add Extra long piping charge for living $150+9%
Add hacking and conceal 3 x drainge pipe $200 x 3pipe = $600+9%

Final total $4816.50 included gst

*Included Installation with new piping
*Included dismantle and dispose old unit

Free upgrade to premium materials on piping materials :

Armaflex/KFLEX 1/2" THICK Insulation
SWG22 Copper Pipe
KEYSTONE / SIGMA WireCable
PVC 16mm Drainage Pipe

Fancoil warranty 1 year

I think probably best to

1) get contacts from residents of the same stack
2) get multiple quotes

Anyway, just an update. Basically because we brought the aircon from the big retailers, they have their own contractors. I’m not sure whether I can ask to use my own contractors (didn’t think about that). But in any case, we initially settled on our ID do the hack and conceal so that we can save the $1.2k. But on site during installation, they say need to rerun our water pipe. The workers on site quoted $400 but somehow that it went back to HQ, the price communicated becomes $1.2k again (said worker quoted wrongly). Since they are already onsite and I don’t want to delay our reno, we paid. Somehow the whole process felt like the aircon contractors just happily anyhow quote prices as per their mood and preference. I asked around but the price differs from contractors to contractors so I will have to say depends on your luck.
