I thought this thread is "How much you will need to bring for a trip to Japan"Are you asking for the cash portion only? Or you talking about budgeting.
For 2 personFor how many people?
See my reply aboveFor 2 person
I estimate $2k, my wife said not enoughFor how many people?
For my recent 12days trip to kyushu for 2, I bgt 120k yen, basically 10k per day for food n transport. Used youtrip n cc for shopping n more costly meals ,
Youtrip on weekday, the exchange rate is very good, near to spot rate.Funny thing is that compared to the rates I got from moneychanger, youtrip rates was 1-2yen per SGD better when I was there
Depends on what u want to eat. Prepare at least $50 per day per person. Some days eat normal, some days eat better. Extra budget: Also can buy summer clothing suitable for singapore wear.Hokkaido 11days, estimate need to prepare how much money? Hotel and Flight pre-booked. Will be taking public transport.
Thanks in advance.
Yea bring can be many things ma.I thought this thread is "How much you will need to bring for a trip to Japan"
Depends where you’re visiting? More cash if going to small shops/eateries, temples/shrines, or small towns; CC or YT/Revolut if visiting major cities.Hokkaido 11days, estimate need to prepare how much money? Hotel and Flight pre-booked. Will be taking public transport.

You need to provide some basic information. For 2 person
Woah you 14 days only use 60k yen, that's what I want to know. Don't want to change too much cash, covert back will not be so worth. Youtrip can still use for other countries, auto convert.Depends where you’re visiting? For most trips, we just keep to ¥10,000/pax per day for food and transport. Our recent 14D trip in October, we only visited major cities, we still had ¥170,000 left at the end of the trip (changed around ¥230,000, on top of ¥10,000 left from another trip). Most meals (including the expensive ones) were paid with YT card. Used public transport (buses) as well.
Will be mid tier, mostly Uniqlo price range. You need to provide some basic information.
Are you interested in high end dining? Opposite end is konbini, good chains. Budget varies a lot.
Shopping? Designer brands or Uniqlo.
Transportation, depent on your itinerary.
Japan is a big place, price levels depends on where you go eg Osaka is cheaper than Tokyo generally.
It really depends on what you do. We didn’t shop much. My most expensive items were from Echire.Woah you 14 days only use 60k yen, that's what I want to know. Don't want to change too much cash, covert back will not be so worth. Youtrip can still use for other countries, auto convert.
Planning Sapporo 1N, Hakodate 3N, Lake Toya 2N, Sapporo 4N = 10 nights
Thanks for your sharing, will prepare about 120k yen, the rest in youtrip, if not enough can still withdraw cash.It really depends on what you do. We didn’t shop much. My most expensive items were from Echire.
We got more cash for our last trip to Hokkaido because we had to pay cash (>¥100,000) to our nature guide and a 3D2N stay at his place.
Also used a lot of cash in 2023 trip to Shiga for two weeks (visited a lot of shrines during autumn) so we had to withdraw more cash when we were back in Osaka for another 10D.
We are okay with leftover yen since we visit Japan every 1-2 years.
Uniqlo and thrift shops (don't know about smaller shops)should be able to use youtrip. Will be mid tier, mostly Uniqlo price range.
May consider 2nd hand brand bag, depend on wife.

Thanks broMost stores in malls will take cc. Kobini too. Standalone ramen stores with vending machines may not though. So in reality, Japan is moving towards cashless payment. No need to change too much cash. If need cash can draw from atm using Youtrip or revolut cards on weekdays if u have no yen in these wallets. Weekend will have additional fees.
I think S$100/day for all meals look good. the rest just use CC. Thanks. There’s no fixed or even standard amount as people of different levels of wealth and spending habits can differ greatly, even between sexes.
For me, my colleagues rule of thumb is S$100/day for all meals, and a budget of $500 for luxury/souvenirs.
