Haha... was not expecting this. Was downloading lots of youtubes before the flight though.

When you max out 20GB, did the data just stop, and have to purchase add-ons?

Rain will affect ?
Not sure, but there will be some impact. But if you are having 500mbps download speeds, it is very good already. Most people on Simba, or m1 don't even get those speeds. It's more than enough for your daily loading of websites, and streaming videos. If no lagging, it's more than what we asked for. Don't chase too much on download speeds.

Asking google gemini on rain affecting 5G, here is the reply with source:

The primary reason is a phenomenon called rain attenuation: water droplets absorb and scatter the radio waves that carry your data, weakening the signal before it reaches your device.

1. How Heavy Rain Affects 5G

5G networks (specifically those using high-frequency "mmWave" bands) are significantly more sensitive to rain than 4G.

  • Why: 5G mmWave uses very high frequencies (24 GHz and above). These radio waves are physically smaller (shorter wavelengths).
  • The Impact: Raindrops are often roughly the same size as these radio waves, making them effective physical obstacles. The rain blocks, scatters, and absorbs the signal, causing "rain fade."
  • Result: You may experience slower speeds or your phone might automatically drop down to a more stable 4G connection during a downpour.

    • Note: "Sub-6 GHz" 5G (the more common, longer-range version of 5G) behaves similarly to 4G and is less affected than the ultra-fast mmWave 5G.

2. How Heavy Rain Affects 4G (LTE)

4G is generally more resilient, but it is not immune to heavy rain.

  • Why: 4G operates on lower frequencies (typically under 6 GHz). These waves are longer, allowing them to pass through raindrops more easily without being scattered.
  • The Impact: It takes a much heavier volume of water (torrential rain) to significantly disrupt a 4G signal compared to 5G.
  • Result: While speeds might dip slightly due to signal noise, 4G usually maintains a usable connection when 5G fails.

Decided to fully unleash the radio chip on the iPhone 17 Pro Max by turning off lower power mode . Ended up getting the below speed
