Got some official notice some time ago.

“

All homes in Singapore must have residual current circuit breakers installed from July

Homeowners will be given a grace period of two years from the required date to install the electrical safety device. “

What is Residual Circuit Breaker for those of us who don't speak Civil Service or electrical engineering?

All old ELCB to be replaced with new RCB/RCCB

Heng. Mine replaced a few years back

:D
Wrong. Read the news posted in post #7. HDB wants hdb units built before 1985 without elcb to install rccb. Before 1985 hdb units were provided with only fuses to protect against overload.

As long as your unit electrical distribution board box has functioning elcb do not need to change even if 40 years old.

Rccb is safer method of detecting electricity leakage. Elcb detect leakage into the earth wire only. However electricity can leak from human body onto floor or appliances without earth wire. Rccb detect leakage by the tiny difference between the live and neutral wire.

In some countries elcb is actually rccb. Need to determine what is the circuit breaker trip detection method.
