I think youtube too many influencers are trying to game the yt system to maximise monetisation instead of coming up with quality content.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but i prefer to read a well-written blogpost than to watch a clickbait youtube video.

Yeah I think all of them started out as good content creators to reach monetisation. Thereafter become poor quality commercial videos with not much value add. So I guess better or can only support new content creators before they reach monetisation? 😅
the quality of those YT/Tiktok finfluencers in SG is absolute trash, mostly grifters that copy each other or copy moneysmart/seedly/dollars&Sense/wokesalaryman tips but in video form.

doubt anyone learns anything from any of them any more.

The funniest part is, it's quite typical SG behavior also where once they sniff just a small amount of money they go full monetization and destroy their base, satisfied with small money rather than try to cultivate an even bigger base, or go regional/int'l.

Standard Chartered Trading Account. 20.11% YTD. Underperformed STI probably due to SREITS like FLCT inside the account. But at least I managed >10% annualised. :ROFLMAO:

Just checked my CDP portfolio. This year (2025) I transacted nothing to my CDP Account. Since comm/fee in SGX for CDP is so expensive, I have stopped transacting on CDP other than IPO, rights application. I do have regular RSP for non-investment reasons. I still do SRS investment in SGX. These are limitation rather than free choice.

Most of my investment this year, has been on the US market.

I would love to support STI to 10K. Just what to invest in SGX that can help it to 10K.

My current personal finance journey has been getting pretty surreal for me.

Among the assets I hold that fluctuate, i.e. 1 HDB, 3 ETFs, 2 Unit Trusts, all are in positive territory.

Since 2017, there's very little trading in my accounts, the flows are mainly dollar cost averaging in flow. Turnover is 4% - meaning the average holding period is 25 years!

So I FIRE’d earlier this year but my networth increased by 700k to ~5.2m anyway (excludes cpf since I have no access to it till 55) despite the lack of income from day job.

I think for many ppl, investment returns/losses will far outweigh contributions from a day job at some pt, at such pt it’d make sense to focus more on deploying their capital efficiently.

So you quit your job already???
I think you have enough to do the 50% REITS/fixed income, and 50% speculation/growth.

So that you can live on the REITS/fixed income, while letting the speculation/growth part compound without facing withdrawal pressure.

Thats my plan. To live off my dividends and yet have a growth component portfolio

Yea I left my job earlier this year, and you are right I did retire with a barbell kind of portfolio, 50% in bonds and 50% in equities. I added some risk to my equity portfolio by cutting some index ETFs in favour of some single stocks so there’s more risk in that bucket now.
