is using laundry pods really that bad? I thought they're super convenient and rather harmless (other than 'overdosing'). they're no different from liquid detergent but in higher concentration, right?
I have been tempted to use 2x pods sometimes as I feel they're not 'strong' enough, especially when the load is heavier. am using front-loading machine btw, so using lesser water to wash compared to top-loading.
how do pods (or liquid detergent) damage clothes or washing machines more than powder detergent?
Clothes damage usually comes from mechanical action of washing machine and heat related damage to the fibres.
Liquid based detergents(including pods) are enzyme based and should be avoided if you are washing silk or wool or cashmere as enzyme will wear out them faster.
Check to see if your detergent contains optical brighteners as these will cause darker clothes to look faded.
Pods are usually formulated for 4KG per pod. So if you are washing a basket worth of clothes, one pod is sufficient. Depending on your washing machine capacity, let’s use a typical 8KG washer. If your dirty clothes when filled up to the almost top of the drum, you need two pods, if your clothes only fill up to half of the drum, you only need one pod.
Pods are not designed for use with quick/speed cycles. Must use your washing machine regular or other heavier cycle.
For washing blankets or heavily soiled clothes then you may want to add two pods to increase the detergent strength.
