For performance, the new iPad mini is powered by the A20 Pro chip. However, there’s an interesting split between storage tiers. Here are the specs of the A20 Pro chip in the 128GB and 256GB models:

  • 5-core CPU with 2 super cores and 3 efficiency cores
  • 7-core GPU
  • Neural Accelerators
  • Hardware-accelerated ray tracing
  • 16-core Neural Engine

And here are the specs of the A20 Pro chip in the 512GB iPad mini configuration:

  • 6-core CPU with 2 super cores and 4 efficiency cores
  • 7-core GPU
  • Neural Accelerators
  • Hardware-accelerated ray tracing
  • Dual 16-core Neural Engine

Pre-orders for the new iPad mini begin on 29 October at Apple’s website (click here) and through the Apple Store app. The tablet will be available from 6 November at Apple Stores and authorised resellers.

It comes in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB configurations. The Wi-Fi model starts at $999, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular model starts at $1,229. Education pricing starts at $929. Meanwhile, the TechWoven Smart Folio costs $119.

So much more expensive then the 2024 A17 Pro iPad Mini yet still 60Hz OLED, binned A20 Pro chip for non 512GB variant and start with 128GB in 2026. Time to look at discount clearance sales for 2024 iPad Mini 128GB.

Bought brand new iPad Mini 128GB on Dec 2024 at SGD$629 from Apple directly and damn...what kind of stupid price of SGD$999 in 2026 due to chip shortage.

I have my iPad Mini 7 256G for 1+ years now, and I still don’t like the touch id. Hope in a future generation it would come with face id.

I bought my iPad mini 6 back in 2023, but the 64GB storage is really killing me now.

I'm currently at 99% storage usage and can't even update to iPadOS 27.2 because it requires around 16GB of free space. The system files alone are already taking up almost half of the total storage!

So upgrading has become more of a necessity than a want. However, I'm now at a crossroads between getting the older iPad mini 7 at a cheaper price or paying more for the latest iPad mini 8.

Well, 64GB definitely isn't going to work in 2026, even those on 128/256GB will probably face issues with storage.

And rule of thumb is that, if you can get a good price for older gen then grab them! Otherwise, if the latest gen is just a little higher, get the latest then.
At least this is my logic.
