You're welcome kjaskk. :)

As I've recommended before in this thread,
"Making sense of Japanese" is an excellent book for anyone who needs to clarify the use of particles in Japanese. It's great even for people at advanced levels.

You can get it in Singapore I think but it's overpriced at Kinokuniya the last time I checked. I got my copy from bookdepository:
http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/WEBSITE/WWW/WEBPAGES/showbook.php?id=4770028024
With the pound at an all time low and free worldwide shipping it's a very cheap but illuminating investment.

Tell me about it Dimitri!

I'm going Japan for a month in December and haven't bought my yen yet. Super screwed now. Luckily all my accommodation has been paid when the yen was a lot lower, so it's just an additional $200-300 in expenses. This just means I can't go on a shopping spree with my credit cards as I had originally planned.

wow...got listening one :D

errr... for JLPT exams, how many parts are they testing us? I heard must get 60% at least to pass?

For JLPT 4 [ & 3] exams, there are 3 papers.

Paper 1: Hiragana to Kanji, Kanji to Hiragana, Vocabulary

Paper 2: Listening Paper

Paper 3: Particles, Grammar

P.S. All questions are given in MCQ format.

You can find past year exam paper & see for yourself.

For JCS, u need Elementary and half of intermediate for JLPT4...

another way u can try is Elementary Intensive and then take JLPT4 prep class... (thats what i did, but i have background before)

its a bit siong... hee :D

I suggest u can try doing a bit of self study first to revise your JLPT 3 work.

Then next year proceed to Ikoma to study JLPT 2 Prep class if u aiming for JLPT 2 in 1 year or their Pre-Advanced class if u aiming to take JLPT 2 in 2 years.

Just fyi, the syllabus will change w.e.f 2010.

Seriously, i don't suggest JCS.

JLPT 2 prep in Ikoma is taught by Ms Kanai. Very good teacher.

yeah, Kanai san is a very good teacher :)

Any suitable reading materials in Japanese

Do you know of any reading material in Japanese suitable for JLPT Level 3 and 4?

I am looking for some sort of children newspaper using simple Japanese.

Thank you

Download hiragana and katakana charts and practise writing them before going for lessons.
Self study for a while before officially taking lessons. You will have an easier time understanding.
