Black suit in your wardrobe?

Do you all agree that a black suit should be a staple in every guy's wardrobe?

Any experts can advise how do you distinguish a business suit from a more casual one? The jacket portion I mean.

it's a must, not a should.

business suits...

- most commonly made in wool
- notch lapels
- two/three buttons

Definitely a staple in the wardrobe. This goes the same for plain white business shirts.

For business wear, navy blue or charcoal grey are more recommended. Black are for very formal occasion or funeral.

granted, not everyone works in an environment that will require wearing a suit (or even formalwear, for the matter), but who is to say that they'll never encounter an occasion that calls for it?

even there is.. will depend on the crowd as well.
eg. wedding... if all v peasants relative(asking them to wear formal already v difficult)... i doubt anyone will wear suit there.. even if they have and it is appropriate .. coz they know their relatives will be quite underdress anyway

ah yes.. the issue of conforming to the crowd.

is this not the reason why most singaporeans always end up attending functions underdressed? i'm sure we all understand the concept of dressing appropriately for the occasion, but once that herd mentality kicks in people start to forget basic dress etiquette and often end up looking really sloppy.

lest we forget, wedding dinners have always been a black-tie affair, but how many men here actually turn up wearing at minimum, a proper suit?

many rarely even wear a suit not to mention proper! just go ahead and wear a suit for the occasion i say! ignore the rest... let them be sloppy as they seem to like it. it's better to be over-dressed than under-dressed...

well, if they stare at you, just stare right back and smile!

Issues like length of the suit would help to determine whether its more suitable for work or otherwise. work suits tend to totally cover the your rear end, whereas the fashion forward suits tend to be shorter in dimensions.

anyone know where to get suits like these budget is 100+?

i have been to topshop, zara and they were retailing for 200+ which is a rather steep price for me.

think 100+ very difficult to get unless is those warehouse super sales or clearance sales.

I prefer to tailor mine though.

topshop has $75 dollar blazers fabric's pretty decent, but the fit is kinda baggy, made for plus sized people.

isn't there always this advert in the papers stating some suit sale or something? i remember $170+

but honestly have no idea what quality of goods they are selling...
