I just updated my viber to the new 2.1 version and now it doesn't work at all. I can't call any of my friends and they can't call me! Viber was working fine just before the update. Please help! :(

Please make sure both sides have the new 2.1.1 installed (uninstall your current version and then install the new one).

Does it work now?
If not, let me know.

I have already installed the new version. You mean I have to uninstall that and re-install again? Okay, will try that. But you can't expect me to ask all my friends to do that in order for me to call them? This really sucks! :(

We are trying to understand what the source of the problem is. After you reinstall, let me know what you see.

Also - what is the exact error message you see when you try to call/text your friends through Viber?

The new Viber version 2.1.X is backward compatible, but only with 2.0.4 and above (2.0.3 and below will not be compatible with the new).

The reason is complex, and has to do with the new, improved sound engine we implemented. Please advise your friends with older versions to upgrade to the new one.

Hi,

I've uninstalled and re-installed viber as you suggested. I told my friend to do the same. Okay, we can call each other now. But when I tried to call another friend, who obviously did not update his viber, the message shown was that he has an old version of viber and he has to update it. Well, fair enough, but after that, I can't make anymore calls with my viber, not even to my friend who had updated her version. I can't click on her number at all. It's like the whole application is hanged!

Do I really have to tell all my friends to update their viber? :(

Thanks for looking into this.

No, certainly not.
Whta you're describing is a bug, but we couldn't replicate it here in our labs.

You're saying that once you tap a friend's name, simply nothing happens?
May I ask you to uninstall, reinstall again and try and reproduce this bug? (we're trying to understand when/how it happens).

Thank you!

After trying unsuccessfully to call a friend who has not updated his viber, and the message saying that he has an older version and should update it, I wasn't able to call anyone else and ya, simply nothing happens when I tap all my friends' names. Thing is, before that I was able to call a friend who had her viber updated.

I have been uninstalling and re-installing for the umpteenth time. How do I "reproduce" the bug?

Maybe my friend is having an older version (2.0.3 and below) and hence I wasn't able to call him? But if I request him to update, how sure are we that he won't be "bugged" too?

Well, we're working on a new, fixed version this very moment, and we hope to release it very soon.

About the bug you are experiencing - I must admit we haven't heard it from other users so far. Is your iPhone Jailbroken? it might help us get logs from your phone and help you solve the problem.

No, my phone has not been jailbroken.

I hope the new fixed version will be out soon. But fixed in what sense? That it will be backward compatible to all older versions? Meanwhile, I've told most of my friends that the new 2.1 version is backward compatible only with 2.0.4 and above. Hope they will update their viber too.

Hi

I'm wondering could Viber provide the same feature like iMessage where I could disable normal phone calling.

Reason been it can be confusing sometime if u are no fully aware and you make a call in Viber and you though it is Viber call but end up it is using your telco normal phone calling instead.

@Camry23 - it will be fixed in the sense that you'll once more be able to communicate (call/text) with your friends without any problem.

@alanseah - Viber shows a clear warning message when you try calling a friend who doesn't have Viber installed. Moreoever, while the screen is purple on a Viber call, it is grey on a regular iPhone call.

Thanks for the quick answer. Yes I do know the different in display just wish there is an option to disable regular call instead.

O ya another thing would like to highlight is the ring tone is way too soft, possible to make it louder.

Thank of the wonder product :D

Currently, Viber's focus is on adding platforms, features and integrating with more platforms, as well as improving overall system performance. At the same time, we are working on additional premium services that will generate revenue once they become available. The basic Viber service - Viber to Viber phone calls and text messages - will ALWAYS be free.
