Rooting will never affect your flash counter.
If you want to install custom rom and don't want to alter your flash counter, then just use mobile Odin and you can just flash off android.

Bro then how come ppl nid to buy USB jig to reset e counter ar? Is it use mobile Odin then safe Liao, dun hav to worry abt flash counter?

Wat to use to backup the stock settings (in case nid to go bak samsung) before rooting n flashing?

N wat u mean by "flash off android"?

Sorry for the many qns....jus a android noob here:o

if you root via desktop Odin, i.e. unsecure kernel, root kernel, then yes, your flash counter will increase.
if you root via the current root.zip which is loaded via recovery mode, then no, counter does not increase.
if you root via mobile odin when flashing another stock samsung firmware with ever-root function on, then no, you counter does not increase.

if you are root via root.zip or mobile odin and has install CWM, then installing of custom rom via CWM does not increase counter.

If I may, here's the direct link to download root.zip, and here are the rooting instructions for this method.

For CWM, haven't tried custom ROM for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 yet but I've used CWM to install custom ROM's on my Galaxy S2. Should be fine so long as you have the appropriate update.zip file.

IMHO either rooting method is workable, though Mobile Odin Pro costs S$6.59 on the Android Market (now Google Play), and the Lite version is free from XDA.

Anybody experienced huge Android OS battery drain for the Tab 7.7? I left it overnight from 100% to 78% in 11 hours... My previous Tab 10.1 can easily last longer than that!

I don't experience such a drastic drop, though I do apply the Advanced Task Killer before I go to bed, whether it works or not...

are you guys all using it as a phone? :D
feel like getting this as a phone. haha!

Might be a bit odd unless you get a Bluetooth headset.
But hey, Android is all about having freedom of choice right? :s13:

Me I already have a Galaxy S2, and downloading the 4.0.3 firmware right at this moment, so ... *fingers crossed for successful update* :s22:
