Hi, I am slight dissatisfied with the arrangements of the billing manner. I have subscribe in April. I received my first billing yesterday. Initially, I would imagine the bill is meant for April. However, I received 2 billing receipts. One is for the month of April, which includes all the registration fee and modem charges, which mounts up to $320. The second receipt was sent at the same time, charging me the month of May AND June, which came as a surprise to me. Can I check is this the standard billing taken by ViewQwest?

Yes Tango, I too had the same situation too on the billing. Hope that it can be improved.

ViewQwest. I am not sure if this has been addressed in this thread.
I found that most of the connections to China are very slow. For example, I have AsiaBox that worked very well when I was with Singtel 10Mb but now I can't use it at all for movies that are streamed from China. Youtube and TED are fine.
Also I have Funshion app on my iPad, it works even on my 3G Starhub (a bit laggy but still can see the movie streaming in) but not on my Fibernet 100Mb.
Does ViewQwest limit certain traffic to China?
Alot of China sites don't pay for larger international pipes so usually for traffic coming from outside China would be very slow.

But that doesn't explain why it's ok while I was with Singtel 10Mb or even on my Starhub 3G.
Anyway, ViewQwest already acknowledged there are some problems on their side. Let's hope it's resolved soon.

I also have the same thing exactly. Signed up in Apr and yesterday I received 2 bills. The one in question is the second bill which covers May and June subscription. Paying one month in advance is the norm but not two months. Some more the due date is 1st May!

I am also against the billing method of 2 months in advance.

Also as mentioned, there are no indication of when it will be deducted from the GIRO account. As with the PUB bills, they mention the account and date that deduction will occur.

My first invoice is for the activation, registration and installation. Would this be deducted from GIRO? It says to send check or use bank transfer.

The billing will normalise to single month. Invoice on 1st, deduction middle of month for upcoming month. It's the same for your mobile phone bills. It's just that for vq installation you do not pay upfront. Also there's a time lag for giro to be approved so you are happily using the service until the bills hit you. :s22:

It's not the same as mobile phone bills. For example my Starhub mobile phone bill: Date of Bill 8/2/12. Due date: 9/3/12. Covers period of 1-29 Feb 2012.
My Singtel BBOM bill: Date of bill 7/4/12. Due date: 21/4/12. Covers period of 1-30 Apr 2012.

Whereas for Fibernet: Date of bill 1/5/12. Due date: 1/5/12. Covers period 1 May - 30 Jun 2012. Does it mean, come 1 Jun we will get invoice for July?

Covers only June and yes come 1 Jun when you get your invoice it's for July. There's about 2 weeks to actual giro deduction. Billing policies varies from company to company, so long as no discrepancy, enjoy your connection! :s12:

VQ, do you have newgroup servers available as add on service? I remember back in the day ISPs like Pacnet had them for free.

I don't think they should as it is not a service many users will use and if that is the case, doesn't make sense to offer it.

Even if they do, it'll probably be text based access which you can get similar level of service from free providers.

If there is binary support, the retention will probably be so low that it is crippled.

So to summarise, I think they shouldn't offer this service.

Hi Viewqwest

I saw a report yesterday on DL on the new service - VPN for US and UK.:)

Will your company be considering a VPN service for China since there a lot of Hong Kong serial drama that are restricted here as our IPs are not located in China.

As we have just launched our VPN service. It currently covers the USA and UK.
We are constantly looking at ways to enhance and improve the service. So please keep the feedback coming and we will do the best to accommodate users requests.

Don't be too happy with their VPN yet. Still don't know their logging policy and also they do block certain sites so defeat purpose of VPN which is unrestricted, anonymous access to all sites.

The VPN service has been designed with the primary purpose of allowing our users to access geographically restricted content to the USA and UK. By this we mean being able to access content from Netflix, CBS and BBC in the UK.

The VPN service only permits HTTP based traffic. It is not designed to hide your identity on the Internet like some VPN services. Our Freedom VPN is for streaming media content.
