If this issue keep coming up weekly , Maybe i need to get my own router and use bridge mode as well...

By the way, any idea which router is good on the market to support ipv6?

<i am noob when it comes to router lol, appreciate if some advise on the model/brand is given:)>

This page is a good start, but is not updated. May want to wait for Comex as well. If I'm getting a new router, I'll certainly get wifi AC router, of course with native IPv6 support, but I'll wait till next year before getting a new one. Currently, I'm using DLink DIR-655, but the hardware revision that I have does not support IPv6.

I'm currently using the Asus RT-N66U, any feedback on whether this will pair well with the Zhone router in bridge mode?

There shouldn't be any issue with whatever router you're using to pair with Zhone in bridge mode. Just like using your router to connect to a cable modem.

Anton, 2 questions.

1. My apartment is wired up. Is there a way to make use of the wall mounted rj11 outlets?

2. Is faxing supported?

Thanks.

1. If the RJ11 outlets contain the 4 pairs of wires they could be converted to RJ45. You would have to open one up and see. Then you can get a contractor to convert the outlets to RJ45.
If you mean to use it for our voice services, you can just plug a rj11 cable from the Zhone to the wall socket to connect the whole apartment. Please take note, that there should not be any other service on the line.

2. We do not support fax, but you can try.

This issue should not happen again. After the string of DDOS a couple of weeks ago, we setup monitoring on our routers. This monitoring causes our router's CPU usage to shoot up on peak usage causing the disruptions. We have removed them and the CPU is now back to normal levels.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Currently only enterprise routers will provide good performance while supporting IPv6.

Not for me - I don't leave my router on 24/7, and I still face this issue.

On a sidenote, it's been a while since we've heard of new firmware updates for the router - it's one of the major things that's crippling the router functions. Any idea if you could get a status update from Zhone?

We had a meeting with Zhone last week. Seems every time we feedback to them features that our users request, they push back the firmware releases a month further to add them. So we have put on hold giving them feedback so that they release the firmwares as fast as possible. They should release one by early September.

The Zhone does not support IPv6 yet, it only does passthrough. So while the IPv4 is assigned as a DHCP-Static, the IPv6 is purely static assigned. This means you would have to type in the long IPv6 addresses in manually into your IPv6-supporting router.

Woohoo. That means it's a YES to the question on Airport Extreme compatibility question.

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the network, or just my computer, but I cannot connect to ANY steam game servers like cs and tf2. However, I can host tf2 servers and play other online games perfectly fine.

I just tried tethering from my mobile 3g and I am able to connect/ping to public steam game servers with no problems so the problem should lie with my router or VQ. However, I was able to connect to servers fine last week and I did not make any changes to my router config.

No issue with mine so far. This is proven with the NAS-to-NAS replication of contents between VQ and SH that I am running and so far no performance issue.

And no. It's constant replication but periodical delta replication so it doesn't hog bandwidth available and furthermore, VQ already mentioned that current subscriptions still doesn't hit alarm level as there is still significant amount of available bandwidth unutilized.

Maybe you can be more specific on the destination(s) that you are facing performance issue instead of a blanket statement. That way it helps VQ to troubleshoot.

I was one of VQ's first residential customers.

When I first got the Zhone router, the wired and wireless networks were on separate subnets. So my wired devices couldn't "see" the wireless ones.

That has since been fixed, but there still seems to be some lingering issues.

I'm still unable to stream audio using Apple's Airplay technology from the computer to a wireless Airport Express or Apple TV, for example.

Likewise, my iPhone and iPad are not able to detect the Apple TV if I hook it up via ethernet.

Using the Zhone router is really frustrating even though I'm hoping to avoid using an external router so as to keep things simple.

Is there a fix for this?

For Iphone/Ipad to Apple TV Airplay, it only works with wireless. I don't believe airplay works by wired from what I have read on Apple forums and from my own testing.
For PC to Apple TV, I will do some testing and let you know.

Also please note VPN and normal connection are separate networks.

AirPlay works for Mac OS X (at least tested on Mac Mini) Mountain Lion to AppleTV. ;)
I believe the feature/function is named as AirPlay Mirroring in Mountain Lion.

There is no native AirPlay support for Windows-based PCs/laptops.

AirPlay works only when the following criteria are met:

1. "Home Sharing" has been enabled on AppleTV as well as iTunes on MacBook/Mac Mini (not sure about windows-based PC).
2. "Home Sharing" on devices have been enabled with the same AppleID. Different AppleID = cannot detect/connect among the devices.
3. AirPlay works with native players (Music, Video) and 3rd party apps that support AirPlay. Not all 3rd party apps work well or even support AirPlay.

Sorry that's incorrect. AirPlay mirroring DOES work from an iPhone/iPad to a WIRED Apple TV. Just that some non-Apple routers like the Zhone seem to have a problem with it.

For me, even standard AirPlay (sending audio from my wired mac to a wireless Airport Express) doesn't work with the Zhone.

I'm not able to use the Remote app to control iTunes on my mac from my iPhone / iPad either. I can add the devices but they can't communicate with the mac thereafter.

Same problem in my set up: My wireless idevices could not be detected on wired Airplay-capable hardware.

When I posted a query on this in June, I was told that the Zhone in router mode does not support UPnP. Not sure if UPnP support will resolve the problem but I am certainly counting the days. Seems like a basic feature to me. Any idea when it could be fixed in the next firmware?

The upcoming firmware release will support UPnP. Anyways, I will do some testing on this during the week.

AirPlay does not use UPnP at the best of my understanding. AirPlay is a proprietary protocol that is based on extensions of several standard technology. Eg. Multicast DNS aka Bonjour.
