Hey guys, if running the ssd on sata2 connection does the getting the fastest ssd make a difference?

Or sata2 makes the speed of the all the ssd bottleneck thus the speed of the fastest ssd will be limited.

If tats the case i might jus go for the cheapest ssd either the strontium or the transcend.

it's easy to imagine... if you drive a ferrarri on a road with 50km/h speed limit... then max you are going to get is 50km/h even if ur ferrarri can do 300km/h rite...??

same thing... SATA is the road... and the SSD is the ferrarri... which ever is the slowest will be your bottleneck... so if u use a SATA3 drive on SATA2 system u are going to get SATA2 at best....

so you can say that no point getting fast SSD drive with SATA2 system...

however there are also other things to consider... if u think u might upgrade ur system in near future -- which would certainly have SATA3 at least... u probably would then transfer ur SSD to the new system and so the new system can make use of the SATA3 speeds.... so u might still consider SATA3...

also cheap... speed... are only some of the factors to consider when getting SSD or any equip... u might also consider other things like reliability... support so u may consider which brand of SSD you would get...

This is the reason I went with Intel 520, solid 5-yr warranty. My other choice was OCZ Vertex 4, but when I think of their distro hor... :s16:

I wouldn't. I would either go with Samsung or Corsair's NGTX :s22:

i stuck with samsung 830 as i order the laptop kit with a usb data transfer cable which i wanted and partly also amazon is very efficient and shipped out the drive before i can make any changes :s13:

I need a 7mm ssd.
Very few choices out there.

That is true, go with Samsung or Crucial should be fine. To be honest, I am skeptical about Sandforce powered SSDs, even they are from Intel. That is the reason I went with Samsung this time instead of Intel. :o
