anyone can recommend me a 17", i5 with a nice GPU for WoW, CS:Go and decent gaming so i can hook it up to a external 23" monitor and have some sort of dual screen?

That will depends on your budget. Note that 17" models are also very limited in the market. There are only a handful to look into.

You can look into

Asus N76 - i7 with GT650 2GB DDR3 - $1798
ASus G75 - i7 with GTX670 graphics $2098

(But above both models are out of stocks islandwide)

Or you can get
MSI GE70 - i7 with GTX660 @ $2498.

If you can go for 15.6",

There is
1) MSI GE60 i5 with GT650 2GB DDR5 graphics @ $1699.
2) Lenovo Y580 i7-3630 with GTX660 2GB DDR5 @ $1699
3) HP dv6-7009TX i7 with GTX650 2GB DDR5 @ $1699.

All the above models are are with FHD.

Unable to switch graphics

I just bought the N56-VZ and it came with integrated graphics (Intel 4000) and the nvidia GeForce GT 650M. I can't seem to find the option to switch to the nvidia graphics. It is currently on 1366 x 768 resolution. I don't even know if it's a problem in the 1st place. Anyone know the problem? (if it's a problem)

Information using Batterycare on my ASUS N53V which I brought 16 months ago.
The 87% wear on my battery is most disappointing.

My 8 years Thinkpad notebook battery wear is not even 50%

Just be aware of potential ASUS lemon battery... in case this problem repeats itself in N56.

It is auto, you can't switch it. When required, the graphics will kick in. In normal 3D, the Intel 4000 is enough, the laptop will use that to ensure longer battery life.

Battery are supposed to last 300-500 cycles in Singapore climate, or around 1-2 years if used frequently. If not used frequently, it has to be taken care of so as to maintain to the charge.

Anyway, Thinkpad batteries are using LG chemical cells, not necessary better than the panasonic cells that Asus usually use. To have a 8 years battery that is still working well is pretty rare.

Anyway, earlier batches of thinkpad batteries are not exactly smart batteries, thus when some of the cells die, it is not detected by battery softwares.

My 2 cents.

Oh I see! But, I read that my I could go full HD? (1920x1080)... But my max resolution is 1366x768.

guys.. anyone here that owned this laptop or know frens who do ... does a upgrade on replaying the optical drive with a caddy and place the original hdd there while replacing the original hdd slot with a ssd?

cant seem to find any hdd caddy locally (except from ebay) and tutorial ehh..
