Anyway, I got this crazy idea, do u think the USB cable can plug into apple's usb charger to charge paperwhite on a wall plug? :s22::s22:

Have a Nook, optimized for US usage also. Plug into Apple's multiple times, no short circuit. Yet.

The other reason why you may be reading a lot more is that suddenly you can get exposed to a lot of new genres of books. Amazon regularly releases lots of temporarily free books, and some are real gems, non-fiction or otherwise..

The funny thing is I only read books from one particular category only and that's more than enough for me to chew on. :s13:

And I never knew that kindle's text display look exactly like a printed one! Really awesome.

How do I have ebook covers for my sideloaded books? I rmb i came across the article somewhere either on this forum or on mobilereads. But I cant seem to find it now.

Anyone able to shed some light on this issue? I'm now trying to download metadata and book covers using calibre idk if it will work.

EDIT: Found a fix! from mobileread, the creator of calibre

This is a bug in the Touch. You can work around it by using the share not sync option under MOBI output in the conversion dialog and reconverting your books.

there is another (better) fix by changing tag to [EBOK] and making sure thumbnail size is correct. go dig deeper in mobileread :)

I guess mine will prob onli arv early to mid Nov :(

Already put some eBooks on my wishlist. Just nt sure when my kindle arrive, by using 1-click on either pc or kindle & send eBooks to kindle will hv any issues or nt...
to be safe, create 1 dedicated amazon account just for kindle. Set it up using US address etc etc. Register your kindle using this account.

Create another account with your credit card, singapore billing address, etc etc. Use this to buy gift cards.

top up your dedicated kindle account using giftcard you bought using the other account, and remember always use this account+VPN to buy book.

no problem for me so far using above method to buy books. All delivered wirelessly thru whispersync (when connected to wi-fi)
can read more in jeffyen's blog I think

No issue for delivering book.

the only problem I can think of is if you buy book directly from (using) your kindle. most people will forget to use VPN with their kindle, so your account might get flagged for review by amazon. They will ask you to verify that you are in US or something.

can read more in jeffyen's blog I think

Meaning;
Register Kindle use Acc A
Buy Gift Cards use Acc B
Top Up the Gift Cards to Acc A
Purchase Books thro Acc A (recommended VPN to be ON even purchase directly from Kindle)

Yep, I read thro jeffyen's blog. That's how I made my PW purchase after reading. Only thing I have yet to do is to create VPN & purchase gift cards. Because later 2 items is almost a repeated action when purchasing ebooks, still pondering if want to buy direct using Acc B.

Congratulations to fellow paperwhite owners!

for those who purchased the official covers, how do you find it? i'm presently using an cheapo $10 cover for my kindle and find it a bit too thick. i also looked for covers on etsy but i dont think i can live with the 4 rubber straps at the corners.

Also, what's the likelihood of amazon releasing new designs for the covers? or reducing the price?

Which online shop should I buy my Paperwhite from?

Tarazz I checked is around SGD$198 inclusive of shipping.

What about Borderlinx and Comgateway?

More concerned about pricing than waiting times. Thanks in advance!

Since you can wait and pricing is a bigger concern, you should order it from Amazon yourself. I read up a little about the shipping and packing this afternoon and i remember reading that it's best to ship one paperwhite + 2 covers to maximise the returns from shipping costs.

As to which service provider to use, i think others here know a lot more abt this than i do.

No chance in reducing prices nor new covers
