IMHO, DAC (digital to analogue converter) is a hardware driver chip that drives the earphone output directly at the audio jack. Of cause you can be right that Samsung is biasing the chip in a way to limit volume.

The S3 uses the Wolfson wm1811 Audio Hubs | WM1811 | Wolfson Microelectronics which is well known as a high quality DAC for mobile device. On paper it does 5.3mW total power for DAC playback to headphones. Not that I blast my earphone, just wondering why it's stuggling to drive my Sennheiser PX100 which is actually relatively easy to drive.
Dac is only converting digital signal to analog signal. The volume is handle by on chip amplifier. A quality dac is only a part of a chain to produce good sound. Other things like source, amp (resistors, tubes or opamp) and headphone must match. There is also impedance. I have no idea why whenever people saw using a wolfson means good sound quality.

Anyway, back to topic, samsung limit the vol. There is mod at xda to increase it.

EH singtel 12gb plan, activate 4G wont revise plan right :s13::s13:

what I understand is once you activate 4G your telco will convert your plan to the equivalent plan.

Like if yours is now the 50++ bucks one, will become the 4G 50++ bucks one, that plan is 3GB cap IIRC.

why other forumers get to keep 12gb with 4G??

thought depends on which telco you are one? :s11::s11:

Guys, how do I find out where my Note 2 syncs ny photos from, and un sync them? Just realised that my gallery is displaying extremely old images, some of which I used for a project many years ago, so long that I actually forgot where I uploaded them to.
