Hi hardware gurus, would like to raise a topic regarding a subject I'm not all too familiar with, and the subject is as stated in the thread title.

Would like to know the best possible positive pressure to (to improve temps whilst reducing dust build-up) airflow configuration for my case. From what I see, it looks as though my CPU cooler is getting little fresh air, and that two of the internal fans may be causing "turbulence" as the air is coming from different directions. OC'd CPU temps max out at 85 deg w/ Prime95, max at 90 deg when running Prime95 & Furmark together.

Here's my current fan config below:

All fans except the 2 Arctics are controlled by NZXT Sentry 2. Speed percentage settings stated above

2 front fans: 2x NZXT FN-120RB @ 80%
1 botton fan: Bitfenix Spectre 120mm @ 60%
1 internal fan: NZXT 140mm @ 100% (came with case)
1 back exhaust fan: 1 NZXT FN-120RB @ 70% (came with case)
2 top exhaust fans: 2x Arctic temp-controlled 120mm

I'm open to any progressive fan upgrade suggestions (ie. buying better fans)

Really? I'd thought there was room for much improvement since all the cool/fresh air is concentrated at the bottom and little of it was being pushed to the CPU cooler.

Plus, when I touch the side panel, it felt more like passive intake (negative AP) rather than passive exhaust (positive AP)

if you are concern on your processor temp better invest in a good cooler

Swap the flow direction of your top front casing fan (the rightmost blue arrow) so that it takes in air. So now out of the three blue arrows, the right one is taking in air and the left and center ones are pumping out air. Improves general direction of airflow. Coz i using this airflow setup with my Xigmatek Asgard Pro. So that whatever air there is wun be sucked out so soon by the right-blue-arrow fan.

Looking at saving up for Antec620 to OC to 4.5 :p

So fresh air drawn in by the right-top fan, left-top & rear fan exhaust right?

Is it worth it to upgrade to Scythe GT or just swap the Arctic with the NZXT?

Nope. The left top fan and the rear fan will be the only fans pumping air out of rig. The rest of the fans will pump air into rig. So when u actually power on the rig, u can feel with your bare hand that there is a general flow of air towards the rear and upwards and there should be no point in time where your hand feels like in a vacuum (i.e. fans sucking air away in two different directions, making your hand feel like in a vacuum).

Like enenyi said, go to Cybermind, fan section, Silverstone square 120/140mm magnetized fan filter. If cannot find, just ask the staff.

Anyway, just hoot a Sycthe GT at $2 less retail courtesy of Yazid. Lots of rewiring later :s22:

As for the smoke thing, is it possible/safe to use my handheld iron and direct the steam through the intake fans (to get an idea of airflow)?

U can, but at your own risk:

1) unless u really churn out a lot of steam, by the time the steam reaches the center of the rig, it would have become colourless water vapour and diffused into the air in the rig.

2) If the steam condenses on your rig parts, u may end up water droplets on your mobo, GPU, RAM etc. It's likened to splashing water into the rig. So this is at your own risk, if u feel safe with enough warranty to cover.

So best way is to open the rig and feel the direction of air flow with your bare hands whilst the rig is powered up. A bit risky, but just be careful NOT to touch any rig parts, metallic or non metallic, since the rig is powered up (potential of electric shocks) and be careful not to get your fingers caught in the spinning casing fans. This is still a safer way than passing steam/smoke/gas into the rig.

Wow, better not. You'll have much trouble then just not enough airflow if you use steam :(
Like ppl said, try swapping the top right one to intake. Check again. If not enough, swap the top left to intake as well.
Or you can change to the tower type heatsink, place horizontally so that it takes in air from the right and blow air out the left. Surely will have much more airflow, no need to go AIO WC if you can't afford it yet.

the filter is not custom to the phantom 410 top and front vents right? i also need. usually people use fan filters for those intake fans?
