Squats
5 x 5 x 32.5kg

Chest Press
5 x 5 x 50kg

Deadlift
5 x 5 x 55kg

Just as I was wondering why my squats weren't as aching as before, a kind lady pointed out that my squats had poor form. Knees should not be in front of feet. After correcting my form, hello aching feeling.. :o

record yourself and share here. don't have to show your face if you're worried of CSI army. You could be doing many things wrong with squats that you didn't know of. I know I did.

That depends. For powerlifting squats, your hips move back a lot, you go just slightly below parallel, your torso bends forward a lot, and your shins stay about vertical, so your knees don't go forward a lot. For olympic squats, you squat down all the way, your torso remains more upright, your shins bend forward, so your knees will move beyond your feet, unless you're Ronald McDonald.

I see. Thanks for the explanation.
I'm taking that stronglifts would equal powerlifting?
In layman terms, poke backside out and try not to extend knees out of feet? So far I have been squatting down all the way.

No, it is a foundational strength program. Powerlifting is a sport. 'Olympic' squats are quad dominant, low bar squats are posterior chain dominant.

Ensuring proper form before i proceed on with heavier weights.

1. Squats
2 x 5 x 20kg
2 x 5 x 30kg
5 x 5 x 40kg

2. Bench Press
2 x 5 x 20kg
5 x 5 x 32.5kg

3. Barbell Row
2 x 5 x 20kg
5 x 5 x 25kg

Barbell row is supposed to feel the squeeze of shoulder blades as you bring the barbell up right?

Squats
2 x 5 x 30kg
5 x 5 x 42.5kg
1 x 5 x 40kg

Barbell Overhead Press
5 x 5 x 20kg

Dumbbell Overhead Press
3 x 5 x 2.5kg
3 x 5 x 5kg

Deadlifts
3 x 5 x 25kg

I am pretty much screwed up at deadlifts. Totally not good with them. I can see mild body transformations, so called beginner gains.

Heading out for Standard Chartered 10km this weekend. Song da!~

any reason why you're running 10km?i'm not gonna sugarcoat things because...

if you're training to be a distance runner, or have been training distance running, it may explain why you're so weak/you don't progress much. so maybe you'd like to focus on one or the either instead?

if you didnt train for it, why join :s13: don't say experience, cause the experience comes from the process of training and eventually taking part

if you're joining 'just for fun', why do it anyway you're pretty weak. why participate in something that is detrimental to your weightlifting goals?

seems like quite a bit of hostility in this thread.. are body building guys short-fused or is it that by following a program to the dot means you are superior over others?

Dont understand why some so called ex classmates of mine...In my ITE school last time....These girls Love guys like F4 or Jay Chou....So to them their definition of being fit and muscular is called "skinny". Where as people like me and us...tend to have the mentality that people who lift heavy , powerlifters , weightlifters ,Dragonboaters and Canoe Sprinters are more muscular...

They ever told me....Running Can make you Muscular....

Ha ! So there goes someone with Little knowledge of whats really happening in sports Science....tell other people what should be done....

So Mr Song Da....Running can make you muscular...but that if your doing your Interval Trainings...Long distance marathons only make you more Skinner....as long as you run for more than an Hour....It burns not only your fat....but your muscles too....

Look dude....If your Looking for a body of a Triathelete or Distance runner....Weight lifting is not for you....or maybe a "functional" portion of weightlifting like doing Squats is maybe more suited for you....

Not every physical instructor is reputable and knowledgeable. Which is why everyone should question and test an instructor before paying them or heeding their advice to see how wide their knowledge base is. but that being said, you would have to do your own research first, which most people dont and eventually heed advice from any instructor be it right or wrong. Unfortinately, this goes the other way round as well. Most clients want results but are not willing to put in the effort out of the gym to get it, even after a good trainer advises them on what to do and how to go about. If i was a trainer, i would arm myself with knowledge and nit pick my clients because if im more excited and into it than the client about achieving his/her goals, more than likely it wont work. These are my thoughts anyway.

hey, yamcancook has been here for quite some time. ive watched his progress. even though if he seems like a 'total newb' sometimes. i can see that he actually puts in effort and bothers to listen to the advice of the people around here. that's why i 'called him out' not to put him down, but to make sure that he's on the right path.

lets be honest, his gains are not that good. coupled with the surgery he had, lets just say he hasnt really gained much in this time. so i was just trying to see why he had to go do this 10km thing as 10km WILL BE detrimental to his goals, especially if he has trained for it. Long distance running and gaining muscle do NOT go hand in hand. possible YES, optimal NO. so why do something that wont benefit you and instead harm your progress? as with the reasons i stated above.

* i did not call him names whatsoever. just being honest with what i thought

please don't say things like that, it just shows...a lack of knowledge.

actually it kinda does, because it's shows discipline.

anyway i wasn't being hostile, just trying to understand why yam would do something like that which was detrimental to his goals.
