Thanks:) as for my budget changing as i dont know if i should spend more or less on computers

Well, I will suggest you spend within your comfortable limit and lower your expectations if your budget is limited.

If you need more opinions, you should create a new thread and wait for the old birds to help you too.

Hi guys,

I've been saving for a new system and actually would be much more free to use it around May so I was thinking, is the 3 months wait going to make a huge difference?

That is if I do buy it now, will the components be outdated very fast compared to 3 months later?

Thanks!

IMO, buy it in May will be better. iirc, AMD 8000 series is releasing in first quarter this year. And Haswell is releasing in June. Anyway, no point buying now and you hardly utilize it and let it rot at one corner. :x furthermore, you can save a bit more and get a good rig at one shot.

Create a new thread will be better. More people can give you more input. Seldom see people giving input in this thread. Haha..

Don't know if this has been asked and explained before, but here goes.

Under the Mid-range section, the recommended Asrock B75 PRO3 M for Intel supports USB 3.0 whereas its counterpart for AMD, Biostar A880G+ doesn't. Is there any reason why TS did not recommend a USB 3.0 supported AMD motherboard?

Hi all, I need some advise for building my gaming rig. Will be playing games like BF3, COD, D3, Skyrim, LOL in the highest settings. Problaby gonna oc the system if i can afford to. Budget wise 1.5k-1.7k.

For SSD, is it necessary and is 120gb enough for the os and the game programs? Or do people just install their game programs in their hdd?

Here's my initial planned setup,
CPU & MB - i5-3570k & Asrock Extreme 4 @ $475
GPU - Asus GTX 660 DCU II TOP 2GB @ $409(PC Themes) / $395(Fuwell)
Ram - Corsair Venegence 1600MHZ 8GB (4GB x 2) @ $68
HDD - Hitachi 1TB 72000 RPM @ $99
SSD - Plextor M5P 128GB @ $155(PC Themes) / $148(TradePac)
ODD - HP @ $25
PSU - Corsair HX650W @ $159
Cas - NZXT Phantom 410 @ $169
OS - Windows 7 Home Prem @ $120

Total @ $1679

Am i on the right track?

Thanks in advance.:)

  • AMD 7950 performs better than GTX 660 at the same price level.
  • You will need a cpu cooler for overclocking.

If you don't oc, you can go for a higher end gpu, AMD 7970. Performance will be better than 7950 and with oc, its performance can reach GTX 680 stock performance. After all, I don't think oc can yield much increase in fps in gaming compared to getting a higher end gpu.

Hi nippOn. Thanks for the reply. I don't think im gonna oc. Will be changing the GPU to 7950 so that i can lower down my budget to less then $1650. And btw, i checked the pricing for windows7 home from tradepac is 110. Which one is the latest? $103 or $110?

Yeah, should be possible. By the way, what is BT series? And if your hdd is still in good working condition, you should consider getting a SSD instead of HDD.

If you don't intend to oc, change your CPU and Mobo to i5-3470 & Asrock B75 Pro 3M @ $347. You don't need k processor and Z Mobo if you don't intend to oc.

For OS, I think $110 is the latest price. Didn't go and check Tradepac latest price list. :D

,
I use bit torrent for series and all other stuff.
SSD is fast but I need lots of space for my farming needs....
So I will stick to HDD.

Can Win7 Home install over Win7 Professional ?

Thanks for the advice.
