Hi Kyoji83,

1) I saw the points system from BrightSparks forum, apparently, if its a Aussie degree (done on campus or through distance) the points given is 15pts, UK degree 10pts, local uni 8 pts. Of course, there are other more important factors such as employment being in their Skilled Occupation List.

2) Yes it does. No matter which degree we choose, it's still 18 mths of hard work and a substantial amount of money, since we do consider the ranking of each uni, might as well we choose one where the ranking and reputation is likely to maintain at a certain level.

Ireland is a relatively small country compared to the UK, the funding of its unis largely depends on the amount of state funding and fees of international students. With the current Euro crises, these will decrease. Even though its a distance program but still, we should maximize our bang for bucks.

3) Yes I agree with that, when we cross over to their country of course priority is given to their citizens but when their MNCs come to our shores or another country, holders of their country's qualification stands to have more advantage. I noticed far more
British MNCs than Irish MNCs and of course lots more UK graduates than Irish.

When SG MNCs goes aboard, I would expect graduates of local uni be given preferences cos the hiring manager is likely also a local uni grad and there is a certain familiarity with the qualification.

Anyway Kiyoji83, r u currently also pursuing a degree? Through distance learning? What were the main considerations for u when u went for it?

Can you share with me the link from BrightSparks forum?

Have you been to Ireland? My friend is an UK PR & he have try to look for a job over there in Ireland but his comment is "Employer do not select you because their culture do not welcome Foreigner to competed with them for jobs or to live with them" unless Foreigner is a tourist for holiday. Not sure how true is it.

Unless HR can prove that they cannot find local then they select foreigner if not chances of Hiring Manager will not get to see the candidate's CV from his home country is very high.

I have graduated from distance learning mode. Some of the main considerations for me are...

  • Which course recognize my current qualification for enrollment?
  • Which private school is nearer to my workplace or/and home?
  • How much is the total course fees?
  • Is my degree recognize by some of the public sector organization?
  • Does my degree course have the same modules & certificate name as the onshore on campus university?

Hi Kyoji83,

I tried searching for the BrightSparks link but sadly I couldn't find it anymore. However, there's a wealth of info at this website, go google asingaporeanson blogspot sg how-to-apply-for-australian-permanent (I can't post links) for applying Aussie residency.

I have not had the chance to visit Ireland. Didn't know that their companies are so opposed to foreigners joining their ranks. I used to have a colleague whose sister is a citizen there (Converted). From what he told me, Ireland is a really laid back, friendly and beautiful place although its development is still pretty backwards compared to SG.

Your considerations are largely similar to mine, I was considering Northumbria and UCD last yr and was about to go for UCD when RHUL came along. Going by your last point, RHUL would get your vote over UCD too?

I have already read his blog from the start to the 'last chapter'.

Maybe they have change due to economic uncertainty & 'high' unemployment rate?

Ireland is my top list to be consider for migration however I don't think I am talent or resourceful enough to migrate & live or/and work there.

If you got lobang next time must share the rope with me =P

I will not chose these 3 courses for my degree. However if I must rank from out of these 3 courses, this is my ranking.

1) RHUL (Same cert name but modules is different)

2) UCD (Different cert name & modules but there is a number of modules to convince employer of my competency to hold a fresh graduate position)

3) Northumbria (Same cert name but not sure modules is the same or not. However amount of modules are too little to convince employer or/and assessing professional bodies of my competency to have a fresh graduate skill & knowledges)

My source for Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Management.

RHUL: Single honours management

kaplan: Degree in Singapore | Part Time Degree at Kaplan Singapore

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Example:

Kaplan website have 'MN3495 Clusters, Small Business and International Competition' as a module.

Can you find it in RHUL from my source?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Unless you are willing to wait for the term in kaplan that have the module you want to module match with your peers from onshore campus, mostly part students just grab the modules private school offer at the term to graduate faster and/or same time as your classmates.

for rhul the cert name and modules are exactly the same.
