I just bought my MBP with retina display.

I'm thinking to buy a keyboard protector to cover my keyboard from dust, etc. But someone told me that Apply laptop is using keyboard to dissipate and radiate heat, if it is covered by keyboard protecter, it might affect the cooling system and cause the laptop too hot.
Is it correct?

Since lamination is more cheaper that palm shield, so I'm going to laminate the trackpad and palm area. Is it ok?

What else accessory I shall buy for my MBP?

Thanks!

Most of the keyboard protectors out there for the rMBP 15 looks bad. Even if you don't play games, if you are watching say, youtube videos, you will feel the heat on the aluminum surface, especially near ESC/F1/F2

As long as you don't eat/drink/sneeze into your rMBP, it should be fine. The space between the keys and the keyboard is so small that only very tiny crumbs or dirt can go in. Just shutdown and wipe once per week will do.

I've been using a silicon keyboard protector...dun like it...make typing more difficult...prefer the keyboard to be bare...typing alot easier...

Don't.

There is no glass protecting the retina screen, and very little space between the screen and keyboard. Putting a protector in between may cause scratches and indentations in your screen should it be pressed against the protector when held in clamshell mode.

From my experience, typing on KB without protector is much more easier. I have tried it since the days of white MB, MBP to the current rMBP. I cant really feel the keys as I types with the protector on it.

In addition, like others have mentioned, the KB area emits heat. This is evident especially when you are running your Mac under full load. Certainly, I would never want anything to obstruct the heat output.

The macbook doesn't really dissipate much heat via the keyboard. I run my laptop in clamshell mode connected to an external display and haven't experienced any issues.

That said, I discourage the use of a KP for an entirely different reason. Here is a warning issued by Apple themselves; make of it what you will. To cite the relevant parts,

MacBook Pro with Retina display: Do not use palm rest covers

Symptoms
Leaving palm rest covers or other material on the palm rest surface of your computer could result in damage to the display when you close it.

Resolution
To enable thin design, the clearance between the display and the palm rest area is engineered to tight tolerances. Do not use palm rest covers as the added thickness may interfere with the designed resting position of the display.

As a best practice, keep the palm rest clear of any material.

for my own mbp i just pasted on the moshi palmguard and that's it. going strong for 4 years now. dont like the keyboard protector as it makes the keys feel too squishy.

rmbp and mbp is different. it will scratch your precious rmbp if you use the palmguard (even moshi!). so beware... anyway, i send back my rmbp to apple and replaced it with mbp (mid 2012 model). so far i am very much happy with my mbp - i7, 750gb and 16gb of mem. it works very well with photoshop cs6. and for mbp, yes i am using moshi palmguard, incase hard shell and moshi keyboard protector. =:p
