DAC, not sound cards. I don't know of anyone who auditions sound cards. At most review.

Can also try Stereo at ION or Plaza.

What's the difference between the two? Another noob here

Auditioned some Senns at their showroom and I don't recall my old HD228, PX200-II & PX100-II sounding as awesome as the showroom's SQ. I guess they had a good soundcard/DAC?

Okay. Thanks a lot for the info. :) Does has services like Stereo to audition DAC as well?

What price point are you looking at? You don't really need expensive DACs.

Below $300 is what I'm looking at if any for DAC. In fact, I m looking at audinst MX-1

A sound card has an internal DAC and audio processor (thus you can see the equalizer options in Windows).

DAC basically just converts the digitized audio to analog waveforms, then passing those signals via an amplifier or headphone jack. It's just a chip, actually.

Also, sound cards are usually meant for PCs and/or notebooks and are PCI-E based. External DACs can be used with PCs but needs to be connected to the sound card.

Is it too confusing? Lol.

Yes, you can audition DACs, headphones and earphones as well. But must queue during peak period.

My suggestion is to research a little bit before you go there. They have a website.

Thanks for explaining. Would you recommend a sound card over onboard? Considering that my onboard is the best that Realtek has now (ALC898), I have no idea whether it would be a justifiable upgrade. Oh, and my "best" headphone is just the HD25-II and Amperior :s22:

Moi never sexperience my Senn headphones to sound as good as that, so I want to find a way to match/get close to that SQ level :(

If you are particular about sound quality, yes. But bear in mind, few can actually tell the distinct difference. You need a trained ear for that.

To get close as you want to that, you need to couple the DAC with another amplifier.

I'm alittle confused now. So if I get an external DAC, I need to run the wires from a sound card in the pc's pci-e slot to the DAC and den to the speakers? Confused, someone mentioned, get DAC, den no need get a sound card. Can run from onboard to dac to speaker?

In your case, yes. Onboard -> DAC -> Speaker

Thanks! I get it now. So more elite will go for an amplifier as well right? Haha.

Those DAC comes with a stock cable to connect to the soundcard(in my case now is onboard)? Den connect the red and white cable from the speakers to the DAC.

find those USB external DAC... then the sound wun run thru the onboard

yea normally DACs output RCA/XLR to your speakers.....

For your case i dun think there is a need for an amplifier since your M10 has a built-in one

for as far as i know, amps/tube-amps are for powering passive speakers
