Yup, almost all flights going out from SG have much higher surcharges. For those booking one way, better check carefully.

Well, not really out of SG.
It's SQ/Krisflyer that has high tax/surcharge. So it will be also a lot fying from other places.

Some airlines/FFP have lower surcharges.
For example, redeeming a roundtrip from SG to US using Skymiles from Delta only attract tax and surcharges of less than 100 sgd.

It depend on which frequent flyer program and which airline you use.
Krisflyer is always the most expensive one.

Yes it's true that SQ charges higher tax. But even then there can be a big difference whether the flight is inbound or outbound.

From my recent redemption experience, SIN-TPE biz class taxes was about $208. TPE-SIN taxes was TWD 2297, which worked out to be about $96 - less than half. No prizes for guessing which direction I made my redemption. =:p

Sorry, maybe i didn't make it clear. I refer to SIA/krisflyer only.

Out of SG have significantly different surcharge from incoming.

i read from Amex's Facebook page that existing Krisflyer Gold members have to reapply for the card and their Gold card will be cancelled upon approval of the Ascend card. Hmm.

Thats right. I applied for the new Ascend Card and my KF Gold was automatically cancelled. Strangely, I noticed that the first 10-digit of my KF Gold card account no is the same as the 10-digit card number of my new Ascend Card.

I was wondering if the 4 lounge vouchers can be used at once. I read the T&Cs and there seems to be nothing restricting that. I'll be in Toronto so was hoping to use the vouchers there with my family.

Is the 5000 bonus miles offer applicable to the supplementary card holder as well?

Nice card design

pity they couldn't throw in Palate membership. 1 night in a Millennium Group hotel should ease the pain i guess....for $256 annual fee

If you apply online, first year annual fee is waived and you will still get the 1 night free stay plus 4 vouchers to the lounge access.
